Description of 1963 Land Rover Series 2a 109 |
1963 Land Rover Series 2A 109 Wagon This is probably the quintessential classic Land Rover: The 109” wheelbase model, which accommodates 4 doors and seating for ten (10)! Then, it’s the Series 2A, considered by Landy purists to the “best of the range” because of its stronger gear box (4-speed, non-synchro). Theheadlightsremain recessed as with the original, and this is a trademark of the true classic Series vehicles. The desirable two-layer Safari roof (an option) and forward vents keep you cool on the road. The 2.25-litre (gasoline, NOT diesel) engine compression is just 7:1 making it very tolerant of regular grade gasoline. The Series 2A features the trademark simple metal dashboard, which was replaced in the Series 3 with a plastic dash that detracts from the true classic feel. To maximize their longevity and durability, these Land Rovers were made from aluminum, a practice just introduced by Ford in 2016 for its F-150 Pickup Truck. However, the LR frame remained steel, and this was a potential problem over time as the “tin worm”, what the Brits call rust, attacked the frame. Many have been replaced, but this example is original and is in extraordinary condition, as are the body panels. The drivetrain on this example is also in excellent condition with a purring engine that turns over with push of the starter and a 4-speed transmission that functions correctly. The 4-wheel drive system also works properly. This vehicle only shows around 70k miles, which is supported by its outstanding original condition inside and out. The cosmetics of this LR have intentionally been left as original as possible, with correct paint in the factory green color applied to its excellent body panels. Every last detail of the car has been addressed and made fully functional. Electrics, the supposed bugaboo of British cars, have been gone through completely and are fully operational. A Weber carb setup has been added for easy starts and smooth running. Mirrors, lenses, mats, hoses, seat belts, engine compartment and undercarriage are all in superb condition. Five new tires, front and rear fog lights, vented safari roof (two layers with vents for max cooling), high-lift jack, overhead stereo console and more… just some of the options on this classic LR. The net result is a Series 2A Land Rover that looks and drives beautifully and has been preserved in very original condition at a price far under its skyrocketing collector value.
