Description of 1988 Land Rover Range Rover

The LAND ROVER RANGE-ROVER CLASSIC was over $35k when NEW in 1988. Also in 1988 it was only the 2nd Year this Model was being imported into the United States and this is the last-year the truck was imported with the “exposed door hinges” available (and the beginning of phasing out the Short Wheel Base – SWB). During our 4-year ownership we have invested over $6000 in repairs – including the installation of NEW working A/C. as this is a daily driver IN FLORIDA. and has been extremely reliable by virtue of our care – we feel it necessitates the OWNER being reliable more so than the car. a reliable-owner should therefore always have a reliable-car). So we are bringing to market our 1988 LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER CLASSIC SWB: the last of a 7-car collection to be sold to the highest eBay Bidder (our collection involved several other very affordable European classics by Mercedes. BMW. Alfa Romeo. Jaguar. SAAB. etc). Our success of selling these other cars on eBay has lead us to sell our last remaining collectable-car here too – this Range Rover was actually a daily-driver for over the last year and a half. now replaced with a 12-yo Audi Wagon – the Sale of this Range-Rover will mark the end of our classic-car collecting hobby and the ability to move on to other business endeavors. PROVENANCE: We purchased the vehicle in early 2011 from a Florida Family who claimed their Grandfather was the previous owner of this truck and he used it religiously to commute between Georgia and his retirement home in Florida. Upon his retirement it ended up in the family’s care. and they sold the Range Rover to us on his behalf. It appears the Walnut Wood Door-Cappings were refinished at some point and the Grandfather/Previous-Owner (PO) had completely redone. to a clean tight finish. the headliner and all carpets – installing 2-layers of wool-like end-to-end mat-material over the entire floorboard of the car / cargo / tailgate area. it is very sufficient. but we have ALSO added Atlantic-British All-Weather Mats in the front and a WeatherTech Cargo-Liner in the back – he also had the entire upholstery redone in a very sturdy and sensible vinyl material that is wisely water repellant and without chips. cracks or repairs. We took delivery of the vehicle with over 161. 5k Miles on-the-clock. but the speedometer does not work nor track miles. it may have more miles than this or it might not even be the original cluster; we’re not sure and none of that has prevented us from enjoying the vehicle regardless. The brakes. then and now. work fantastically; all the lights work – including the door hinge and puddle lamps – and the Automatic Transmission and 3. 5L EFI V8 Engine have been serviced and have always run well for us. it has not been used off-road; it does not appear the PO used it in an OFF-ROAD capacity either. Lastly. the truck arrived to us with a couple dings on the windshield. the speedo cluster – aside from gas-gauge. and blinkers. etc. – is inoperable and we have not replaced it ourselves. It was missing the Center-console Cubby-Box and radio; we adjusted the center console to work with a button-bar for the power windows and have purchased a NEW Range-Rover Cassette Radio – which was OEM for the 91-93 RR Classic. it is in place in the dash but not connected. that said it does include the Security Code. tools and hand-book to this Range-Rover Radio; Hayes Hardbound Manual and Original Owners-Manual are also included. We are in the Fine Art and Antique Field and consider these cars as part of that passion; and we realize too we are only the short-term caregivers of these treasured objects. and they live on in the hands of future dedicated owners. WORK WE’VE DONE: All Belts replaced. All fluids changed. NEW Brake Master-Cylinder and Power-Steering Hoses / Pump & Belt. new Air-conditioning Lines / Motor / Compressor. New Distributor. New Power Window Motors/Regulators/Switches. new Console Wiring Harness and ALL Fuses and bulbs replaced; Muli-Function Module (MFM) & Engine Control Unit (ECU) replaced. NEW BATTERY w/ Warranty. new steering/starter lock & keys… These we’re the things that allowed this car to be a reliable daily-driver for my 20-mile daily round-trip commute. [Over $6k in repairs; new Owner will receive this repair receipt paperwork – and Clear Florida Title with the purchase of this truck] WHAT ELSE WORKS: Car is currently up to date with Insurance and Registration; Clear Title. BRAND NEW Large 245/75/16 AUTOGAURD Heavy-Duty Tow-Grade Tires were added a couple hundred miles ago (they still have beads); Battery & Starter. Air-Conditioning. Tow-Hitch and Light-Harness. Power Options. All Windows and Wipers. All lights and Signals and Dash-Clock. K&M Air Filter & Treatment. Engine / Brakes / Transmission ALL IN WORKING ORDER; everything there to allow you to jump in it today – drive anywhere. it LOVES the beach – and pick up plenty along the way: Home-Depot and Harbor-Fright are frequently well-matched for its ‘to-do list’ (strangely it just goes and goes and goes; put in Premium-Gas when the Low Fuel Light comes on and it’s ALL GOOD)…. WHAT IT NEEDS: Power Seat Adjustment. and mechanism for passenger. Also if applicable to new-owner. maybe do an engine idle adjustment. PAINT (Portofino Red is well-presented on the lower side panels. the hood and upper-sides have clear-coat oxidation and the roof is now painted roughly with a Flat-Black/Bed-Liner Paint combo; power sunroof has NOT been opened during our ownership. Needs a door-lock key made. we have a couple Range-Rover blanks. and they just would need to be cut-to-size. If we we’re to keep it. we would have it painted – change out the speedo cluster console - have a door-lock key made and leave it at that… Still. it’s a jump in it and GO. kinda-truck RIGHT NOW regardless! The New Owner will have a great slate to restore and make their own OR enjoy the Rat-Rod aesthetic & Drive as-is! Please note the truck is completely drivable. but it is not Concours perfect. the truck has NOT been in-any-way restored: it is OVER 27-Years Old (it is selling as-is / where is / with no implied warranties). Bidding starts at $1988. there is NO RESERVE. and it will be sold to the highest winning bidder. This is ANYONE’s game considering and a real opportunity to score a continuing accredited classic – remember in 1988 not many in the US we’re prepared to preserve and care for these trucks appropriately. so their numbers are dwindling – to say nothing of the elegant simplicity of what these trucks were THEN versus the opulence of what they are NOW. We encourage dialog and questions. including any pre-inspections. and wish those interested the best of luck in pursuit of this very fun and rugged piece of British History!
