Description of 1989 Land Rover Defender |
A very reluctant sale of the family Land Rover. Originally owned by my daughter, I bought it off her when she needed to get a smaller car when she changed jobs as its a hard job to park in her new location. Sadly something currently undiagnosed has happened to me and I have now been made to hand in my driving license and I can't see me ever getting it back. And due to this illness I have also had to close my landscaping and cleaning business. So I need funds to ensure I can meet all taxes and employee notice payments. The car has passed its annual inspection mid November. This is a really thorough inspection and rather frightening to watch.Parking and driving brakes tested on rolling road to see they work correctly and also checked for wear to brake shoes/pads and discs/drums. No loss of fluid leaking from break components, no serious corrosion to break lines. Exhaust emissions tested. Steering box tested to ensure not worn. and all mechanical parts regarding steering checked for wear etc. Wheel bearings tested. Suspension tested, lights and windscreen wash wipe tested. Chassis and significant body parts etc tested for corrosion, and if they suspect there is any they can take tools and dig at it turning a 1/4 inch hole into a foot one if they chose. Any serious fail and can actually ban the car from the road then and there. We put it in for a respray to gloss black. It was gone for 5 months. New door skins were put on the front, Inner door frames was refabricated, window runners replaced. Any chassis components were replaced if rusty and the rear suspension replaced. Battery box replaced as they corrode easily. Any thing that needed plating and that was visible was cut out and new pieces of metal cut and welded in place rather than just cutting rust away and plating on top. So the patches are not visible. The cost of this renovation was not much less than the now asking price. We did these things out of love for the car knowing you will never recover the cost, not expecting one of life nasty surprises to come our way. We also sourced a company that had a number of new original sun roofs and seals in stock so this one does not leak and works as it should. My next plan was to have the chassis cleaned up as it does have light surface rust and then have it treated or painted with hammerite but by then I was not going to drive anywhere (having partially knocked down my house when my illness kicked in out of the blue reversing into my drive with my daily car). The Land Rover was not used off road by us, we attended gatherings and just liked being out in it. Meeting other owners and having strangers come and admire it and discuss it with you. From the photos you will see there is a steering lock fitted which we shall keep. But the Clutch Claw seen on the pedals will be removed for shipping and included, it denies access to brake and clutch pedals to any would be thieves. And is just about impossible to remove without the key. There are 2 photos of a red key type object that goes on the panel of the passenger seat. !st photo is how it goes in and 2nd how it will be on receipt. it turns 90 degrees only. Once removed the car is immobilized and the complete electrical system will not work so its impossible to steal the car by starting it without redoing a host of re wiring. We have the original hand book, a Haines work shop manual and a brand new wheel clamp never used all of which will be included in the sale, as will be a complete set of all the keys as spare. This is a reluctant sale and if I win the lottery before its sold I will find a way to get in and out of it, and some one to take me out in it.I have been in contact with a number of shippers but cant really get an accurate shipping cost as I don't know destination port. How ever www.autoshippers.co.uk were the most polite and helpful company I spoke too. They will need to collect from RM18 8RQ which is enough information to know where to collect from. Its far cheaper for them to collect it than me get to get it to the departure point myself. Their website is helpful and seems relatively simple to use. I would like $500 deposit on auction close and the balance paid when shippers are paid and by the time they arrange to collect. If sold I can email my bank details to the buyer.Sorry some photos are sideways, blame Ebay I cant do anything to correct them. One photo shows scratched mud guard, and one side step has damage to paint work. In the uk our houses are rather small and our driveway was blocked. When coming home late at night our drive was pretty much blocked and reversing into the drive caused scratching to both mud guard and side step, only other damage was complete demolition of one of the walls in the photos, but no structural damage to the car. If any thing else pops into my head I will update listing Any questions please email or phone 07870 604036 I think 00 44 7870 604036 from USA.I can provide all bank details for direct payment . Car AgainstSpare wheel does not match the 4 fittedDrivers side mirror was seized. while freeing it up it became quite floppy. Trick is to remove it from its ball and put it back with a bit of rubber glove over ball to create frictionPassenger wiper arm and the collet holding it all in place kept popping off, I was going to make a notch so that the collet grub screw went in a bit deeper. Not sure the grub screw is hard enough to bite into the wiper mechanism. May just either find some one to remove it for export or tape it to the screen. It can however stay in place for a long time.Car ForDaughter just seen me preparing the add, tears nearly flowed. I simply cant afford to keep it while I close my business, Mr Taxman wants his blood |
