Description of 1980 Land Rover Defender County |
More detailed photos and videos in the description below. 1983 Land Rover 110 / Defender County, 81,200 miles, 5 speed manual. Note that eBay doesn’t recognize the VIN of an imported ‘83 so it says 1980. It is a 1983 though. Imported from England by a previous owner who performed quite a bit of work over 5 years. It’s right hand drive with an upgraded 5 bearing 2.5 liter inline 4 petrol/gas (upgrade from the standard 2.3), V8 style copper radiator, twin electric fans, 5 speed with overdrive and upgraded 1.4 transfer case for better highway gearing. It will go freeway speeds with this engine and gearbox - it shifts easily through the gears. The tires are nearly new.The brakes have been rebuilt including new pads up front (good rotors), new shoes and wheel cylinder’s in back and new brake hoses. It had power steering added and drives straight with no play.New upper radiator hose and air filter. New shock bushings were fitted. All fluids just changed: engine oil, gearbox and axles, coolant flush. The fuel filter, battery and starter are brand new as well. The previous owner stripped down the body to aluminum, retained all original body panels and resprayed it in the original russet brown and cream white top / wheels. The rear crossmember and outriggers were replaced after using a wire wheel to the entire chassis and painting it black. It isn’t completely rust free. There is evidence of some minor rust bubbles on a few of the lower doors (last 3 photos in description below) and a small amount on the passenger side of the bulkhead (below the glass, 7th to last photo below). The chassis is very solid and body is good overall.Floors are also excellent and very solid under the carpets. The windshield and rubber seals are new.The door mirrors are also new.It has an adjustable tow bar package with trailer wiring connector, period correct galvanized roof rack, ladder and Land Rover mud flaps. The interior is mostly original with working gauges. The dome light doesn’t work and the headliner is original. The previous owner put new carpets in.This was the final year of sliding windows similar to series Land Rovers.Almost all slide with no issues - a couple in the back seem to stick closed though (perhaps could be greased somehow to move freely). It runs very well and starts easily.I have a stack of paperwork from it including many receipts and documentation through it importation - plus a clean MN title. It’s a solid driver, ready to hit the tarmac and beyond.
