Description of 1962 Land Rover Series II |
Regarded by many as the best off-road vehicle in the world. Land Rover has a storied pedigree dating back to 1948 with the introduction of the original Land Rover Series I. Styling is no-nonsense and quintessentially British. Off-road performance is unparalleled. Simply put. it's the best four by four by far. For sales in South America. Land Rover developed a partnership in the late 1950s with Santana Motors to supply complete knock-down kits. The components were manufactured by Land Rover in England. with final assembly from the complete kit by Santana in South America. Santana began engineering their own solutions in the 1970s for the Series III (making parts hard to come by). but the Series II trucks assembled in the 1960s are pure Land Rover. As such. parts availability is excellent. This 1962 Land Rover Santana Series II is fresh from a nut-and-bolt. frame-off restoration. The aluminum body is very straight and paint quality is excellent; bulkhead. frame and other rust-prone areas are completely solid. Zero known rust issues. Lenses. rubbers. etc. have been restored or replaced and show as new. Steel roll cage provides significantly better rollover protection than the standard hoop set. Soft top is new. The interior is certainly no-frills. but it has been restored to the same high standard as the exterior. Seat upholstery is new. gauges. switches. lights. etc. are working. Under the hood is the Land Rover 2. 25 litre four-cylinder petrol engine; it's mated to a four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive. The engine. transmission. transfer case and axles were fully rebuilt when the truck was restored fewer than 200 km ago. Power brakes have also been fitted; tires are new. The truck starts. runs and drives like new. As a gasoline-powered. left-hand-drive model. it's certainly more appealing than the RHD Diesels being imported from the UK.
