The third-generation Mustang was having its swan song in 1993. but the Special Vehicle Team (SVT) at Ford decided to send it off with something extraordinary. They made this final year the one and only time for the Cobra package. The outside was given subtle upgrades with a new grille up front. vintage pony emblem in place of the blue oval. and chrome cobras on the fenders. The rear has some interesting features such as a unique SVT spoiler. and a new light arrangement not seen since the ultra-rare Mustang SVO. The 7-spoke. 17-inch aluminum wheels are unique to these one-year only Cobras. and as a nice added touch. all four have been polished to a mirror shine. These modified wheels and the chrome exhaust tips bring the perfect bright contrast to the deep black of this midnight racer. While most Mustang fans already know how special this one is. it is worth mentioning that there were less than 5. 00 Cobras produced in 1993. and only 1. 54 were black. There is no telling how many met their untimely death. or have so high mileage that you wouldn't even take a second glance. This includes the larger valves of the GT-40 cylinder head package. high-flow fuel injectors. performance camshaft. revised computer programming. and a GT-40 cast aluminum intake. For a little extra kick. this one has been upgraded to a K&N cold air kit. BBK headers. and a Flowmaster exhaust. So beyond the already extreme performance of the factory Cobras. it is safe to say that this one produces even more grunt than Ford's conservative 235 hp advertised rating. Ford also beefed up the clutch and the dependable Borg Warner T-5 five-speed manual to make sure all the power is handled reliably. The performance package was topped off with suspension upgrades such as a smaller anti-roll bar up front. improved rear springs. and four-wheel disc brakes. Just like the pristine interior and exterior. the 41. 88 current mileage (less than 2k per year) suggests this car was a treasured coupe from day one.
