Description of 1987 Lincoln Town Car SAIL AMERICA EDITION |
I never thought I would sell this car, but my kids' college tuition bills sure made an impression on me..... I think the 1985-1989 Town Cars are the most handsome generation of Town Cars, and one of the best driving sedans anyone ever made. The 5.0 motor delivers just the right amount of power, and the car is very well balanced, and can be driven with one finger, and one toe... One of 1800 made for the America's Cup Yacht Race that year, this 1987 Lincoln Town Car "Sail America" Commemorative Edition has been my daily driver for the last 3 years, and it has made me smile every single day. It has never ridden on a tow truck during my ownership, it is supremely comfortable, and people love it, everywhere I go. I absolutely LOVE the All-American, Patriotic look. The Arctic White paint is thin from years of polishing, and the clear coat is peeling in certain areas, but she has NO dents or rust, and still looks great overall. The navy blue carriage roof shows some age, but has no rips or tears. I re-glued the leading edge of it, above the windshield. The leather seats are white, with navy blue piping, and are in very good shape. Back seat is almost like new. Headliner has a couple of small holes near the sunvisors, but intact overall, and not sagging anywhere. The carpets and mats are very nice. The trunk is like new. The metal brightwork body mouldings are excellent and shiny all the way around. The dash is absolutely perfect, without a single crack. I keep a dash cover on it. All the door panels are nice, but the drivers door armrest has a couple minor cracks. Everything works! The AC blows cold, the keyless entry system, all the windows, the power antenna, the trunk release, the seats, the clock, the JBL sound system sounds good, the rear defroster, the cruise control, etc. The car has had the transmission rebuilt within the last 30k miles. It shifts nice and smooth. I had a new rear end differential installed about 12k miles ago, and new rear springs about 8k miles ago. Alternator and battery are both less than a year old. The car is super dependable, and a joy to cruise around in. It has been used in some photo and video shoots here in Los Angeles, and looks great on film. The odometer reads 49,493 miles. I believe that to be 249,493 miles, although the car drives like a car with 75,000 miles. It starts up every time, and doesn't blow any smoke. The collector I bought it from near Palm Springs took fantastic care of it, and I have also tried to be a good steward of this Town Car. In order to renew the registration here in California and pass the SMOG inspection, I believe I will have to replace at least 2 of the catalytic converters. With my current financial situation, and two kids going off to college, I don't really want to put money into the car. My dream was to restore the car and maybe even Hot-Rod it a bit with a crate motor, but now is not the time for that kind of fun. SO, if I sell the car within California, I want to sell it AS-IS, or as a "parts car". As a parts car its probably worth at least $5k (Even the center caps for the wheels go for $220/ea.) The CUP 87 California Plates come with the car. I have all the original books and manuals, and the factory JBL sound system care kit. I even have the original window sticker. The car has a clean California Title in my name, and is for sale locally, so I reserve the right to end this listing at any time. I will deliver to any shipping depot within 40 miles of downtown LA for out of state, or International buyers. Thanks for looking!! |
