Description of 1979 Lincoln Mark Series Collectors Series |
NW Luxury Liners is proud to make our Ebay Debut with this Very Rare and almost impossible to find 1979 Mark V Collector’s Series In Diamond Blue! That’s right, you are looking at one of the 197 ever manufactured in this color. Although she isn’t perfect, a fresh coat of paint and a few small dings smoothed out will result in a stunning jem that only a few people today can say they own. A piece of history. The best America had to offer in 1979. O of a handful left in existence. 1 of 197 ever made in Diamond Blue and one of around 100 ever made in diamond blue with Kasmann II luxury cloth interior. Did I mention that the miles to empty gauge works? I will be traveling to Detroit for the holidays so I set aside time to clean this car up, replace some of The trim such as the beautiful trunk vinyl jump cover, and adding additional photos this week. I decided to start the auction now so that I can help arrange shipping prior to the holiday. Some details about the car: The Moonroof functions but sticks sometimes so I am including a complete 42” power moonroof assembly with mirror finish (including motor) as an added bonus to the high bidder. The only non- original parts on this incredibly rare Lincoln are the doors, quadrasonoc tape player, Trim bezel that houses the tape deck, and dual exhaust with new performance mufflers - all of the aforementioned parts were sourced from one of our 1978 diamond jubilee editions which has the same color code and is also, but not quite as rare a car. The door wiring was not spliced. It was painstakingly routed properly just as done from the factory to plug into the original harnesses. Car comes with the original carburetor. The currently installed carburetor was just rebuilt and is OEM Ford but not original to the car. I do have the original Mark V Collector’s series carburetor which is also included in the sale. I am more focused on making a name for my business then making a ton of money on this car even though I know it’s worth a lot. I figured that there is someone out there who wants to put the finishing touches on this thing themselves and take pride in one four of these cars in Diamond Blue that I know to still exist (two are in Australia.) When we acquired the car, the prior owner had removed some of the exterior trim to prepare for paint. Also, interior door cards were removed, Luckily, I was able to retain all of the original trim from the prior owners and I will be re-installing the exterior trim (including he beautiful dark blue vinyl trunk hump cover) and interior door cards this week prior to adding more photos. This rare jem runs wonderfully and shifts through all gears: Rides as a Mark V should. Undeniably smooth. Under 65k miles. I will confirm the exact mileage this week. This car was originally owned by a wealthy Seattle executive named “Thor”as can be seen on the dash placard. Here are a few things that need attention: -Paint is tired. This car sat in a garage for most of its life and then the last 10 years was outside. All electronics look REAL good - no corrosion like I usually see on them. -Only one of the speakers is functioning. -The rag joint for the steering is showing signs of wear (common issue and inexpensive part for the Mark V) and could be replaced. -Moonroof functions but gets stuck unless you apply pressure with your hand to it. (Replacement moonroof and track included with the transaction. -headlight vacuum hose has been severed - I am including the OEM replacement hose and air tank with the sale price. I drive this car weekly and it is as smooth as glass. Gets too much attention from the public to be my daily driver. It’s Fully loaded and just waiting for the right buyer to make the final cosmetic adjustments, complete a proper paint job, and handle a few minor other things. I replaced power window regulators with OEM nice factory Lincoln regulators - same with power door lock actuators. There is no cancer on this Luxury Liner. Just a few spots where surface rust has been sanded and primed over. Bumpers are straight. No leaks. Gauges and electronics are functioning. Seat bases are not rusty - Car was well protected most of its life. Has lumbar support option on driver side The hood ornament appears to have been repaired but is original. I have the original owners manual. I will be including the original quad 8 track deck that was original to the car as well as the one that is currently installed. If the car sells for the right price and to the right buyer. NW Luxury Liners will also include some rare bonus gifts that are from my private collection of 78 jubilee and 79 special edition Mark V’s. At NW Luxury Liners, I specialize in rare and hard to find late 70’s Lincoln parts and vehicles. If you can’t find it, I more than likely can. I have been selling locally and on the Lincoln Facebook group for years. It is time to make a grand entrance to the eBay Arena with a car so rare that only a handful are left in existence today. The Collectors Series Mark V truly is a mix of elegance and function. The title is clean, the interior is very nice. The car needs some cosmetic work, paint, a few minor fixes and then she would take first place in any car show that’s worth going to. You could fly here and drive it home regardless of where you live. I would replace that rag joint if you are going more than 1000 miles though. Tires appear to be real good. Original turnine wheels. I will include a spare wheel and tire with the car. Please call or text me with questions @ 503.999.1324 and keep your eye out for more photos which will be up this week! Again, these pictures don’t do it justice. I will be cleaning her up this week. The interior is real nice and tethered is no interior rust/corrosion - that’s because she was garaged most of her life. Moonroof does not leak. She will look much better once I detail the engine bay and get some real nice photos of the clean undercarriage, beautiful interior, etc. I’m open to offers! Please spread the word about Northwest Luxury Liners! I have tons of rare parts for Town Coupe, Continental, Mark IV, V, and then some! And with NWLL, We always add a little something extra in ( Original OEM 1970’s Lincoln Memoriabilia) for free with each order! Here is a some info from automotive mileposts on this rare bird. DIAMOND BLUE COLLECTOR'S SERIES AT A GLANCE:
By April of 1979, production of the final full size luxury Lincolns was approaching the end of the line. And this included Lincoln's top of the line model, the Continental Mark V. A huge sales success since its introduction in 1977, it was certainly appropriate that a special edition be offered to commemorate this historic event. We've provided the specific details of the Collector's Series Mark V's on other pages of this site, so we won't repeat all of them here, but we will provide links to them at the bottom of the page and in links within this article. We will highlight the details that separate this particular color choice from the others, and that specifically is the paint finish color. Known as paint code 38, this Diamond Blue Moondust Metallic finish was the same provided on the1978 Continental Mark V Diamond Jubilee Edition[link opens in new window]. Why this additional color choice was offered late in the model year is up for speculation, but April was traditionally the month when Ford Motor Company rolled out new colors and introduced new models in advance of the next model year. It's a tactic that had proved successful for them in the past, so in that respect it made perfect sense. What didn't make sense was the fact that introducing new colors was usually an attempt to sell more cars, and at this time Lincoln was very close to violating Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) mandates, which meant heavy fines. But the Collector's Series cars were basically trim and equipment packages, so Lincoln was making big profits on every one sold, and they knew there would never be another Lincoln like this one again, so perhaps they felt the risk was worth it. |
