Fresh, modern styling cues included frenched head- and tail lights, a wide low-profile grille, one-piece windshield, a low-profile roofline and restrained, yet effective brightwork. The dash was updated by 1950, with the speedometer now placed directly in the drivers view. front of the driver. a new 337 CI flathead Ford V-8 developing over 150 HP, the new Lincolns could easily reach speeds in excess of 100 mph. A GM Hydra-Matic 4-speed automatic transmission was optional by 1951. The 1949-51 Lincolns were immediately recognized as luxurious, quiet, high-quality automobiles capable of covering long distances almost effortlessly. In addition to competing in the first Carrera Panamericana road race in 1950, the 1949-51 Lincolns are famous for their White House service.
