Description of 1959 Lincoln Continental Mark IV |
1959 brought forth the 4th and undoubtedly the finest in the distinguished series of the Lincoln Continental. The main bones of the Continental body features unframed construction with welded steel body and frame with safety door locks and safety glass in every window. These 1958-1960 cars were the largest unit-construction cars ever built. and were constructed alongside the Ford “squarebird” Thunderbird four seaters at a brand new Wixom. Michigan plant. The exterior is polished with baked enamel with two primer coats. two sealer coats and two pigmented finish coats to give it the ultimate sheen. Inside. there is a padded instrument panel. deep comfort seats. scotch-grain leathers and deep-piled carpeting. Standard equipment includes power steering. power brakes. electric clock. 6-way power seat. power-operated window vents. and tinted windows. These cars were equipped with an all-new. 430 cubic inch V8 engine. This particular car for sale is one of several other Lincoln's from a well maintained collection. Some of the other cars in the collection are visible in a photo below. including a 63 Lincoln (in spectacular near-perfect condition) and 58 Lincoln convertible. Note our other auction for the 63 Lincoln running at the same time as this auction. This 59 Lincoln is in extraordinary condition. This is a black plate CA car. Short of finding one fresh from a rotisserie type of restoration. it may be the finest example of its kind in existence. The engine starts willingly on the first crank. and it drives and functions as intended from new. The engine is quiet. smooth and blows no smoke from the exhaust on start up or otherwise. It rides smoothly and confidently. as intended from the factory. The exterior shows very well in its original metallic copper color. There are some minor signs of age. such a few nicks in the paint. and the prior owner reports that portions of the right side of the car were repainted. The chrome and bright work trim pieces are crsip and sparkle. both on the exterior and interior. The cream colored leather upholstery. headliner. dash. carpets are nearly flawless. Note the videos of the working electric wind wings and rear window. all of which function like new. The photos will represent the condition better than words. There were only 1. 03 of this model manufactured. This is an excellent opportunity to find a showpiece such as this. and one that would take well into 6-figures to try and restore to a similar condition.
