1958 Lincoln Continental Mark III ConvertibleOne of the very few original 1958 Continental Mark III remaining on the highways today. The 1958 Continental Mark III marked the last year of Ford’s experiment of making the Continental an independent marquee. The following year the Continental was returned to the Lincoln division of Ford Motor Company. The ‘58 Continental made a statement with its bold design. It was the largest American automobile ever built. Larger than the Cadillac Fleetwood and Chrysler Imperial. The first year of this design provided a 430-cu. in. engine giving this V-8 a 375hp power house. Future years were reduced to a 395-cu. in engine with less horsepower. The Mark III’s V-8 375hp with 4. 00 RPM and 490-lbs. ft. of torque were strong performers weighing 2. 5 ton weight. Top speed for this mighty land yacht was 116 MPH. Because of his love for the cars of the fifties. the current owner purchased this project vehicle early 2005 and began a radiator to gas tank restoration which involved: Exterior refurbish paint. all chrome and bright work; a new convertible top; windows. nbsp; molding and seals were repaired or replaced. As well as new luxurious leather interior. All major electrical components are functioning. Including original AM radio and speakers and clock. Electric window switches have been replaced. Electric top switches. motor and pump have been replaced. Over the past eight years the 4 barrow carburetor has been rebuilt and then later replaced. Braking master cylinders have been replaced. Brake pads and drums replaced and constantly monitored. Both front and rear wheel bearing are new. Both front and rears ball joints. springs. shock absorbers. bushings and tie rods replaced. Steering disassembled. repaired and replaced with new rubber disc. And aliened with gear box which was replaced. Engine tear down and rebuilt or replaced all parts. Replaced engine mounts. Intake and Exhaust manifolds cleaned. repaired and reassembled with new gaskets. Transmission totally rebuilt to standards. New gas tank. New Coker tires.
