Here is a very nice, 988 Lotus Esprit, hat has benefitted from a 2 year restoration effort. Coming into our shop in spring 2013 with a partially disassembled engine, nd a worn out interior, he results speak for themselves.The EngineComplete disassembly and inspection prompted the following: replacement of main and rod bearings (standard size on both), icro polish of all crank journals, eplacement of all 4 cylinder liners, ew rings, eals, ater pump, rank pulley etc., ylinder head resurfaced, alves lapped, oth cams were replaced (O.E.M. Lotus 910), rank and cam shaft end plays set to factory specs. Replacement of all fuel injector lines, urbocharger (factory Garret remanufactured), nd stainless waste gate pipe. Rebuilding of waste gate assembly. All new belts, ensioners, oses, lamps etc. Entire exhaust system replaced with stainless 2 1/2" free flow (catless) system -sounds great! Transmission Previous owner had recently installed "Quaife" limited slip differential with new clutch assembly (cleaned and inspected). Replaced pilot bearing. Entire shift linkage disassembled, epaired as needed, nd lubricated. Fuel SystemBoth tanks removed, leaned, nd internally sealed with P.O.R. 15 fuel tank sealant. Replacement of factory sponge rubber cushions with non-moisture absorbing polystyrene. Both tanks repainted. All fuel hoses replaced with Goodyear 'ORTAC' industrial hose. (Fuel tank corrosion is a problem on these cars). Fuel distributor rebuilt. Front Suspension Replacement of steering rack boots, uter tie-rod ends, ower steering rack u-joint, pper ball joints, heel bearings, nd seals. Rear Suspension Replacement of upper spring insulating rubbers and both rear wheel bearings (very difficult!). All suspension items cleaned and painted. Brake System Previous owner had recently replaced front pads and rotors (cleaned and inspected). Rear pads replaced; entire system drained and bled with "RGS 610" D.O.T 5 fluid. Cooling System Radiator assembly thoroughly cleaned, lushed, nd repainted. All 3 cooling fans rebuilt; new hoses throughout. All related hardware, upport assembly, lamps etc. replaced or repaired. Electrical System New "Exide" sealed battery with cut-off switch installed. All new bulbs installed front to back. Virtually every connection cleaned and checked. Numerous relays replaced. The Interior Originally dark grey leather, he decision was made to replace with black U.V. resistant Naugahyde. Entire dash, onsole, eats, nd door panels were replaced. The original door panel inserts were retained. Drivers seat cushion was replaced. The factory grey cloth headliner was cleaned and the cloth bulkhead inner cover was recovered. All carpeting front and back, as replaced. Both window regulators cleaned, epaired, nd lubed (work perfectly). Original Blaupunkt "Denver" radio/CD player was retained. Wheels and Tires Currently shod with "Falken Zeix ZE 912" tires. Tread measure L/R - 7/32"; R/R - 7/32"; F/R - 8/32"; F/L - 8/32". All four rims are in excellent condition. Body and Paint Showing no evidence of any repairs or resprays of factory 1988 finish, he decision was made to not repaint the very typical Lotus fiberglass body stress cracks. Very presentable from 10 feet, ome stone chips and scratches are present (see photos). Overall Summary Realizing the market for Stevens bodied Esprits is somewhat weak currently, sking price I feel is reasonable. Purchasing a high performance limited production vehicle like an Esprit is an expensive decision. These cars are not Hondas! They are very fast, esponsive, ttention getting, nd rewarding/difficult to maintain cars. I'm sad to see it go. Shop manual and owner's manual included.
