Description of 1969 Lotus Super Seven |
The car is a 1969 Lotus Super Seven Series III replica car. The owner was managing FASPEC in Portland, regon in the late 70’s when he met Tom W. McBurnie who was creating the Sceptre Motor Car Company of Goleta, alifornia (later to be famous for creating the Ferrari Daytona Replica used in the Miami Vice TV Series). McBurnie needed MG Midget Doors and Windshields for his cars and FASPEC was glad to oblige. McBurnie had also purchased one of the frames built for Lotus by Arch Motors, ne of many suppliers that were left holding stock that was not delivered because the Seven was sold to Caterham in 1973. Dave Bean ended up with some of these chassis and was selling them. During a stressed cash flow moment, cBurnie offered the frame to Bob at FASPEC. A brief discussion of values ensued and the chassis was sold for $2500. A very quick trip evolved and the frame was picked up in 1979. Several months transpired and Bob got a second phone call from McBurnie, ould Bob be interested in a Twin Cam Lotus engine and close ratio transmission rebuilt by Dave Bean for his car? Arm wrestling ensued and a deal was made for the Elan Drive Train. Another quick trip and the parts were starting to come together. A Ford Cortina rear end (3.90) was sourced, eeded parts accumulated or built and by 1982, he car was running (we have receipts for everything plus pictures of the chassis and car as it was put together). Life changed and a move to Vashon Island took place, location with few police and great roads suited to enjoying the car. All told, ess then 1000 miles were put on it before it became in need of an engine rebuild and rolled in to the shop. In 2002, n a fit of spring fever, he motor was rebuilt by Autosport in Seattle and new tires installed. Since that time, ess the 50 miles have been put on the car, total of around 1000 miles in 35 years. The car is titled in Oregon as a 1969 Lotus using the frame numbers AM167 as the VIN number. It is currently plated and registered through 2017. The title is clear and not branded. This is not meant to fool anyone or make claim that this is one of the original Lotus Super Sevens, t is not. As of these cars were of a kit nature and “prototypes”, t is fair to say that the car chassis is period correct and the drive train correct for the period build. This is either a tribute car or a replica, epending on your perspective. It was built to enjoy and drive, ever with the intent of an investment or future value. It is a one owner car from the moment it was assembled as running vehicle. An inspection prior to bidding or a purchase is welcome and recommended. Better to ask before then after.
