Description of 1978 Lotus Super Seven |
1978 Lotus Super Seven S3 Big Valve TC by Caterham
History · This is an authentic Caterham UK factory built vehicle; completely original. · It is identical to a 1970 Lotus Super Seven S3. · Lotus built only 15 Super Sevens with a Twin Cam engine. · Caterham only built 313 TC Super Sevens before Lotus stop selling them the engine. · A true collector's classic car -- only 328 cars factory produced. · The Seven has 13,900 miles on it (23,146 km). I bought it from the original owner with 7,200 miles on it (11,000 km)....the odometer is in kilometers as it originated from Canada. · The Big Valve Twin Cam engine was rebuilt in 2009 by a professional engine builder for $4,000. · Caterham delivered all the Seven TC with dual Dellortos DHLA40G. · In order to get the car into Canada, it was titled as a 1958 Lotus (The car had to be at least 20 years old to legally import a Seven into Canada at the time).
Features · The tires are brand new Toyo Proxes R888 205/60R13 ($800). · The Seven comes with a dry sump system which was purchased by the original owner and never installed (which I did not do either). · Also included are the original four fenders, nose, and a brand new aluminum louvered hood (which I purchased for $800 but never put on the car because I liked the patina of this 38 year old 7). The first owner purchased an extra set of fenders and nose which I installed on the car in 2009. · The Super Seven S3 has a complete top package: top, side doors, two types of tonneau. The waterpump was upgraded with an 'easy-out' water pump ($700). This allows the removal of the water pump without removing the head.
Comments · This Twin Cam Super Seven S3 is 38 years old and the car has its assorted small dings as would be expected. The fiberglass has no spider cracks (although the extra original set does have some spider cracks and would have to be repainted to look perfect). · There are a few drops of oil when parked, but nothing serious. · The car runs great and is fast....brakes are awesome and pulls the car's 1,100 lbs to a stop quickly. · Everything is functional...this car definitely has a 'fun factor' of 5 ! · Car has a heater which actually helps when it is cool outside. · I added a third LED stop light (easily removed if desired). · I have tracked the car once and it is amazing on the track: truly a street legal race car.
