Description of 1973 Lotus Europa JPS 1973 LOTUS EUROPA TWIN CAM SPECIAL, JPS # 32 |
Offered for sale, from KURT TANNER MOTORCARS, is this very nice Lotus Europa John Player Special for restoration. There is arguably 100-200 real JPS cars factory produced, with the first 100 units considered the true, undisputed, authentic ones. This car has been verified as JPS number 32. This car was recently purchased locally from it's California owner who was unable to undertake the restoration. This car appears very complete except for it's matching numbers engine, which is currently apart for rebuild, and is available from the engine builder upon application. The body on this car looks fairly good overall. It appears that it was in process of being partially stripped and re-primed some time ago when the project stalled. Panel fit looks pretty good. There is some typical sag in the driver's door hinges. The car still retains all of it's original glass in good shape, with a very nice replaced windshield unit. The car's minimal chrome trim looks to be all original and in very decent condition. The car's interior trim also looks to be very original, but is now in need of restoration, and is showing a little tatty. The car still retains it's original seats, gauges, shift knob, etc. and would only need a correct steering wheel to make it back to original. The car's engine has been removed and is currently the property of the engine builder. It's available for purchase. Included is the 4-speed transaxle that was received with the car. The car's underframe and suspension looks excellent, dry and solid overall, and would be an easy part of the restoration.Overall, a very real and documented Europa JPS, which is an exceedingly rare and desirable car in Lotus circles. This restoration car is a fantastic opportunity to secure a piece of Lotus history at a very modest buy-in price. It's a wise purchase going forward.
