Description of 1987 Lotus Esprit |
For Sale: 1987 Lotus Turbo Esprit HCiRare 1 of 159 Turbo HCi's sold in the USA during 1987. I'veowned several Loti over the years there is just something about the history that draws me back. I had always wanted a “Supercar” and this car is about as iconic of a 1980’s era supercar as was produced. This car is a blast to drive and is more comfortable than you might imagine. The engine runs strong and cool. (Has the “Green Dot” cam pulleys) The transmission is about as good as the Citroen transmission ever was. (I did change out the main shaft circlip a potential major problem for this transmission).Overall the body is in very good condition I would rate the body and paint about a 7.5 out of 10. The only real flaw is the front bumper is wavy on top a typical Lotus problem. I did purchase another front bumper from England but have not installed it will go with the car. These cars came with a removable hardtop for open air driving and it still retains its storage bag and air deflector.Electrically the car is pretty darn sound. Most everything works except the power side mirrors and the dual cigarette lighters. The left turn signal is a little problematic I think it’s a ground problem. The interior is also in very good condition. The leather which is everywhere is excellent. An aftermarket CD player plays the tunes and the A/C blows cold in its own Lotus way. All the gauges and switches work except where previously noted.Mechanically the car is very good. Brakes work well and the suspension is in good shape. The tires are in good shape also.Overall the car is now in very good condition and pretty darn original. I also have a Certificate of Vehicle Provenance from Lotus Parts Book and Service Notes that will also go with the car. I also have the original bill of sale. I bought this car off eBay a couple years ago with the intent of keeping it a few years and then passing it along.I'vegotten the thrill I was after and am ready for my next adventure.Unfortunately it came with no real service records so after doing some research I decided to pull the motor and transmission to do some much needed service. I replaced the following during 2014 at 63550 miles: Gates Blue Cam Belt Tensioner Bearing Water Pump Thermostat All Exhaust Manifold Studs + Gaskets All new Belts Motor Mts Starter Clutch Pressure Plate Transmission Main Shaft Circlip Pilot bearing Auxiliary Air Valve WUR rebuilt Pertronix Ignitor 2 Electronic Ignition Pertronix Flame Thrower 2 Coil Ignition Solenoid Valve Overboost Valve Distributor Cap + Rotor Plug Wires All Relays in Coil Box RPM 1 Relay RPM 2 Relay Fuel Filter Battery Spark Plugs If you’re not familiar with the Turbo Esprit's and are thinking about purchasing this car please take the time to do some research. There are plenty of excellent Lotus Esprit websites and forums where the members would be happy to answer your questions. Owning a Lotus or any low volume car can be very rewarding or a nightmare depending on what you are expecting.I have aDropboxaccount with more photo's just email for the linkSold as is where is. NO WARRANTYSeller reserves the right to end the auction at any time. I will hold the car for a reasonable period of time to allow buyer to arrange transportation and or pick up at buyer's expense. The car is available for inspection by appointment.Terms: Winning bidder to pay$500 non refundable deposit duewithin 48 hours and balance payable within 7 days. |
