Description of 1977 Maserati Other |
Maserati road cars have traditionally been a bit more luxurious than their Italian brethren. They were designed by the same top carozzerias and offered similar high end performance but Maseratis are known for finer detailing andsmooth high torque engines.. The Bora concept was born just as the French carmaker Citroen bought Maserati. Citroen wanted a showcase for their unique technology. The mid-engine Bora became their showcase of choice. The result was a flag ship Maserati that because of Citroen's quirky featuresis one of the mostinteresting cars that you will ever drive. US market Boras were powered by a 310 horsepower 4.9 liter four cam V8. 60 mph came quite quickly with 165 mph on tap if needed. The Bora’s handling is legendary with precise steering and excellent control. Traveling in a Bora is done with a degree of comfort normally found in a luxury coupe. Bora #1010 is an old friend. We first ran across it back in the late 1970s in a parking lot at Summit Point racetrack. We had sold a couple Boras back then and made it a point to meet the owner. It was a fortuitous meeting that culminated a decade later when the owner traded it on a BMW M1. Bora #1010 passed through our hands again in late 1992 and once again in 2014. We are pleased to have #1010 back in our showroom. We are even more pleased to find the last owner improved its already top condition. When we passed #1010 to the last owner it was one of the better Boras available. It had been owned by enthusiasts who understood the car and kept it up properly. The last owner was not satisfied with a better example and embarked on making #1010 a best example. Over the past two years he has invested more than $20,000 tweaking the mechanicals and detailing the cosmetics. The result is truly impressive. Even the clock works. #1010 has been driven just 20,045 miles. It has had a fresh service and drives perfectly. It looks near new inside and out. The ungainly US bumpers have been replaced with highly desirable European bumpers. The US headers have been replaced with better performing European headers. This is one of the last 15 Bora’s built. It features the late wheels, forward opening front hood and the other updates built into the late examples. It has an original Blaupunkt radio, factory tool kit, jack and an unused spare tire in the original vinyl cover. We’ve sold many Boras but few if any match the quality of this car. This one won’t last long. Right now would be a good time to call us and set up a personal inspection and lively test drive.
