Description of 1968 Chevrolet Corvair

Solid. running. (minor) project. Wanted to keep and re-paint. or at least enjoy it next Spring. but life has a way of changing our plans. so the car is up for auction. The limited history I have on this car is as follows. Gentlemen I got the car from wanted to do a restoration on a car. bought this one from a friend. He thought he would have to do an engine rebuild as there was a 'rattle' in the engine so he began resto by removing various bits of sheet metal from the engine trim. He also replaced ground straps. added brand new tires (zero miles) and battery. He also purchased a few new parts like motor air intake hose. (I picked up the heater cable and cable housing (to replace broken cable). The owner lost interest in the car as it sat in his (beautiful) garage for over two years unmoved. He wanted the space back and I bought the car. I trailered the car home and began putting the engine bay pieces back together. assembled pulley system. wiring bits. adjusted dwell and timing. nbsp;patched an exhaust leak. (The actual issue turned out to be loose torque converter bolts. I corrected this and miraculously. the engine rattle disappeared )The interior. with the exception of the right side corner of the dash pad (which is pulling away from the carrier) is in very good shape. Even the area behind the fold down rear seat is nice. Door panels are great. Headliner and sun visors as well. Carpet is aftermarket (looser loops than GM factory) but not bad at all. Seats are gorgeous. As described earlier. the area needing attention is the paint and the left front fender rust holes. I have a California source that can supply straight. nbsp;dry. patch panels direct from original 68 salvage car. But I have not ordered these. The glass is all crack/chip free and laminate not separating. Windows crank smoothly. Also has full set of very nice hubcaps (sitting in a box as seen in one of the interior pictures). The more I write. the more I would like to see the car completed. although it would be a grin to me to drive it as is. So what is left to do? A list of minor tinkering. but I will not be doing these until Spring as the car is bundled up in a tarp in the driveway currently(Michigan is too cold in the winter to mess around under a car in the driveway)- Bleed the brakes (parking brakes work fine and cable is free). - I would also refurbish/clean the fuse block. - Fish the new heater cable housing through pan center tunnel. - Replace push-rod tube o-rings- Install engine fresh air hose- pop on hob caps- replace wiper blades- trace radio issue (the lights are on. but nobody is home - speaker?)- check headlamp wiring. - outer lamps do both low and high beams. but inner do not come on. - Run it down the road and do a shake down. probably fine tune carbs The car has to be picked up locally or buyer arranges and pays for transportation. I will be there to assist. Cash is king. If you pay via check or paypal. the car and title do not leave until fully cleared and funds releasedto my account.
