Description of 1990 Mazda 323 |
NOT MUCH WIGGLE ROOM IN THE LISTED PRICE BUT SHOOT ME AN OFFER Up for sale is a '90 Mazda 323 automatic with the 1.6 SOHC engine with 29,250 original miles! Included is a '93 Ford Escort Gt 5 speed with 208,000 miles for the ultimate BP drivetrain swap! Open to reasonable offers but I do ask that you have the funds in hand and are ready to get an "Offer Accepted". '90 323 base 1.6 SOHC with gtr trim (double spoiler, side skirts, intake hood, front bumper and grille); Originally a California car up until 7 years ago, absolutely zero rust and super clean interior, what you would expect for a less than 30k mile vehicle. Up until 7 years ago the car was only driven a mere few hundred or so miles per year clearly documented on AutoCheck. The first 22 years of it's life was spent in southern California with the original owner. Since then, during it's time in the Midwest, less than 10k miles have been put on the car. It has never been driven in winter. A few blemishes are present on the car, some scratches and body imperfections. What looks to be tree sap is present in spots on the hood along with the passenger side. The spots on the passenger side resembles waterspots which wont come of with a simple wash. A good waxing and clay bar should go a long way and despite the imperfections the car still maintans a decent shine. There also looks to be rock chips in the back portion of the side skirts on both sides. I tried to pinpoint everything I could see in the pics so please study them closely. Nothing too crazy for a 30 year old car by far. Interior is in excellent condition. The seats are super clean, very minor wear on driver cushion, and the dash, carpet, door panels, headliner etc. look like you would expect from a car with such extraordinarily low miles. Manual windows and door locks. Has the automatic retractable shoulder belts on both sides. Upper windshield rubber molding has detached on the driverside and should be replaced. Car was in an accident in 2012 and suffered damage to the passenger rear (if I'm not mistaken) quarter panel. Car was professionally repaired and there is absolutely no evidence of the accident aside from the vehicle history report and the Rebuilt Salvage brand on the title. Car starts right up, and the engine itself runs pretty good, however, the transmission is slipping. The notoriously weak automatic transmission Mazda used in these cars is making it's reputation known, which makes it a prime candidate for a manual swap. The car was taken off the road by the previous owner about a year and a half ago and has remained that way since the issues with the transmission began. Car has been started regularly since. Leaks a good deal of oil, I assume the amount of time it has sat over the years has contributed to this. If you were to keep it's original drivetrain I would plan on replacing the usual seals and gaskets and a transmission rebuild/replacement would be in order. Why do that when you have a Escort GT included in the package with all the components to make it a super clean manual DOHC buggy though! Underbody looks like about as clean as what you would find on a new car off the lot, see pics (aside from the oil leak). Matching front shock tower brace and a substantial amount of extra interior and exterior parts in good, used condition included. Has a really nice single DIN Kenwood CD player. Falken aftermarket wheels and low profile tires. The parts car is a '93 Ford Escort Gt 1.8 DOHC 5 speed. If you know Mazda 323's from this era you will know that Mazda made the '91-'96 Escort Gt for Ford. The drivetrains are essentially bolt on with no fabrication needed. There were 3 trims available Worldwide in the 323 of this era, the base model, the GTR which was factory turbocharged, and the GTX which was factory turbocharged all wheel drive. The 1.8 DOHC is a very quick engine and even works well turbocharged on stock internals. Putting this engine even in stock form into a car that weighs just a little over 2000lbs. like the 323 makes it a super quick blast to drive. Swapping the 5 speed transmission from the Escort into the 323 is about as easy as it gets, the only "fabrication" you may need to do is adding the clutch pedal from the Escort, everything else from the shifter to the transmission case is bolt on. The ecm between the two cars only has a few different pins. The 323 is essentially the Escort and vise versa, they are basically the same car. You also get rear disc brakes on the Escort GT which can fairly easily replace the rear drums on the 323. The Escort has approximately 208,000 miles, clear title, runs and drives surprisingly well for the mileage. Starts right up and shifts through gears well. Was told that the top end of the engine was rebuilt just a few years ago but I don't have details as to what was done or verification if anything was even done at all. MX3 seats, comes with original seats both sets in pretty good condition a bit dirty and normal wear Power moonnroof A box of extra parts Car has rust on rear wheel wells and some rusted holes on underbody. Was also told that the shock towers had rust issues which was discovered when the shocks were recently replaced. Remember, the Escort GT is being included in the sale for free, and should be considered a Parts Car. BONUS; two extra 1.8 DOHC engines that have been sitting since the late '90s. One supposedly with 40k and one with 50k miles. I have not done any maintenance to either car during my ownership, the 323 has only been driven up and down a side street once and on and off my trailer, same with the Escort, you are buying the 323 as-is, no returns or warranties. With that being said I take great pride in describing everything I sell in honest and great detail so there are no surprises. My feedback speaks for itself. A non refundable deposit is due immediately after the close of auction with the balance in full within 5 days. You have 2 weeks to pickup the entire package, but again, it must be paid in full within days of close of auction. WILL NOT PART OUT OR SEPARATE, SELLING THE COMPLETE PACKAGE ONLY.
