After an enormously successful decade of race victories and production car sales success, ercedes-Benz decide to launch a brand new SL model to replace the 190 and the 300. Unveiled at the March 1963 Geneva Motor Show, ercedes-Benz launched the 230SL Coupe/Roadster with a standard removable hardtop and stoway canvas soft top. A distinct concave hardtop was designed for the car and lead way to the nickname “The Pagoda SL”. In 1967 Mercedes-Benz introduced the 250SL with a slight increase in horsepower, tiffer suspension and new rear disc brakes. In December of 1967 Mercedes once again unveiled an improved W113 SL, he 280SL. This time with an increased engine to 2.8 litres and 170hp. The 280SL was built for model year 1968-1971 and of the 23,885 built, nly half came to the United States. The 280SL has become an iconic classic in the motoring world and has shown over the past few years’ excellent investment potential. European Motor Studio is proud to offer this beautiful 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SL 2-door Roadster finished in Sandy Beige Metallic over Green MB Tex. The car was sold new to the first owner in 1971 and has been in the same family ever since. This car is all original except for one older repaint in the original color of Sandy Beige Metallic. This 280SL has been verified by the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center in CA as having left the factory a Sandy Beige Metallic over Green MB Text car. The Classic Center believes only a few finished in this color combination. The interior is all 100% original except the wood trim which appears to have been replaced recently. The paint finish still shows a beautiful shine and luster with minimal flaws. It is an older repaint that does have some small imperfections. The chrome appears to be all original and shows very well. Very light scratches here and there and some small pitting but incredibly well preserved. The engine runs exceptionally well and pulls through all of the gears without any hesitation. The car starts right up and does not smoke or leak. A full tune up has just been done including fluids, lugs and wires. The transmission has recently been rebuilt and shifts very well and without any hesitation. All of the electrical appears to be functioning as designed including all of the interior and exterior lights. The engine is a numbers matching engine, he hardtop and convertible top boot are matching numbers as well. The car does come with its original Becker radio and comes with all of its original Mercedes-Benz owners books, ervice book, ar care book, 80SL catalog book, riginal metal data plate and original data card. The original tools, ack, pare and books pouch is also present with the car. This is an excellent 280SL finished in a very rare color combination fresh out of a single family ownership. The car has been well maintained its entire life and is believed to have only covered 80,070 from new. The floor's are original, he trunk apears to be original, he interior still has its original heat shields, he engine bay has its original fire wall, nd there is no visible rust to be found on the car.
