Description of 1989 Mercedes-Benz 300-Series 300SEL

This auction isfor a 1989 Mercedes-Benz 300SEL sedan.

The "L" stands for extended Length. There is an additional 6" of leg room for the rear passengers. The back seat is quit roomy.

The 177hp 3.0L Inline 6 under the hood is widely known as one of the most bullet proof engines and able to travel well past 300,000 miles with just regular maintenance. The S-Classes are known for their luxury, nd they featured every luxury and power options available at the time.

This car is offered for sale by the original owner. It spends most of its time in the garage, ith a car cover over it.

The exterior is in very good shape. These are a couple of small dings on the left passenger door. The paint is very bright, ell maintained, reshly waxed, ut does have a few small scratches, result of rose bushes along the driveway, There is NO RUST on the body!! The vehicle has NEVER been in an accident!

The interior is invery nice condition. The leather is all in good shape, he front seats, onsole armrest, nd headrests having been replaced a few years ago. They match the rear upholstery exactly.

The only item inside the vehicle which does not work is the clock. I purchased a used clock, hich had been reconditioned, ut never had it installed. (The replacement clock isincluded with the car, long with some other parts I'll list later).

I had aSony multi CD player which was added a few years ago. The control was attached using velcro, o if you wanted to remove it, o damage would be done to the interior. The CD player is mounted in the trunk.

Mechanically the car is very sound. About 10,000 miles ago, noticed the car temperature to be running a bit higher than usual.

I took it over toour local Mercedes dealer the same day..

The overheating was result of a leaky cylinder head gasket, nd oil had gotten into the cooling system.

The following items were then replaced:

Cylinder head was reconditioned, performed a valve joband surfaced the head).

All necessary gaskets and seals were replaced including the radiator, all cooling system hoses, verflow tank, water pump, nd fan belts. They also replaced the cooling fan as it was a bit noisy.

Acomplete tune-up was done, ncluding replacingALL the fuel injectors, park plugs and wires, dist. cap and rotor.

The AC was not cooling as it had, o we replaced the AC compressor and clutch, rier, nd of course charged it with fresh refrigerant. The AC is COLD!

The steering and suspension was inspected at the same time. That resulted in replacing all the ball joints, ie rods, nd drag link, ncluding the front shocks. An alignment was done.

We also purchased a lifetime alignment and tire balancing, o these are checked and doneevery 90 days, s required.

The rear brakes needed replacing so calipers, otors, nd pads were replaced as well.

A few months later as a result of annual smog check required the replacementof the entire exhaust system, including exhaust pipes catalytic convertors, ail pipes, nd O2 Sensors. And of course the fuel cap. Passing the annual Smog inspection is NO issue now!

In fact, ast month the annual tags were due, nd it passed the state emissions test again! (The registration is now current and good for another year).

This set of repairs cost us about $12k,but my wife had owned the car since it was new, nd at the time had planned to keep it forever!

I have all the invoices to show the repairs which have been done.

The car runs extremely well. It does not smoke, akes no noises, nddue to replacingthe injectors, the acceleration is phenomenal!

It is a sturdy solid car, s Mercedes is known to make them.It handlesvery wellboth on the freeway and around town.

The tires are in very good shape, nd as I said earlier we have both the balanceand the alignment checkedabout every3 months.

We are selling the car as we are both retired, ndneither of usdrive as much as we used to.Sothe drive is crowded with too many vehicles.

The Benznow sits most of the time in the garage with a car cover on it.

We do take it out now and then, nd drive it just to keep the battery charged, nd the fluids fresh.

There aresome additional parts that will be included with the car.

Those will be the tach / clock, which I mentioned earlier), remanufactured alternator, some trim parts,OE brake pads, front & rear), dditional HID box, ome lamps.

The car comes with 2 sets of the original keys and original owner's manual.

I have replaced all the exterior lights. Both front turn signal lamps were replaced as the lens had become a faded amber over the years. The rear tail lamps have been replaced with a late model euro style lamp, hite lens, ith amber bulbs, ather than the OE amberlens. The headlights have also been replaced Chrome Euro Headlights with LEDs by Anzo®.
