Description of 1985 Mercedes-Benz 300-Series |
This rust free Mercedes Benz 300TD Diesel W123 with 185K miles spent the first 21 years in San Diego, alifornia and the last 9 years in Arizona. I have a detailed set of maintenance records going back to when the vehicle was new in California. I purchased the vehicle in April, 006 with 129,500 miles on it and have put 56,000 miles on it since then. I originally purchased the vehicle as a first car for a teenage daughter. It has since been used by two other children and fared well except for a fender bender while pulling out of the HS parking lot in front of another car in the rush after a football game. The fender damage (shown in Carfax report) was repaired by a very reputable body shop in Chandler, z using new Mercedes parts. Other than that, his Mercedes has not been involved in any other accidents. It has a clean Arizona title and has a current registration good until May, 016. The vehicle is in "good" overall condition as can be seen in the photos. I say it's in "good" condition because of the condition of the paint, he interior seats, nd needed mechanical work. I'm selling the vehicle because it has served it's useful life with our family and I need to trim the size of our fleet. The 123 Diesel is one of the best vehicles every made by Mercedes. The OM 617 Turbo Diesel is one of the best diesel engines every built. These vehicles routinely run for over 300,000. They were built to last. They are easy to work on with good parts availability and a great network of enthusiastic owners available on line. The photos really describe the vehicle well. The car is located in Chandler, rizona, 0 minutes from Phoenix, ky Harbor Airport. Please watch the YouTube Video Walk Around to hear the engine run and get a better sense for the vehicle condition.https://youtu.be/6ezChwWkCuk Here's the Good: · Clear Arizona Title with current registration (expires in May, 016) · Vehicle passed the Arizona emissions test with flying colors in May. Emissions is good until May, 017. · Body is straight and structurally solid with NO RUST on it anywhere! · Engine and Transmission are solid. It starts on the first crank every time. · All instrument cluster gauges work as they should. · Headliner is in good condition. · Electric sunroof seals tight and works well. · Steering and suspension are tight. The suspension was totally rebuilt a couple of years ago by a very experienced MB mechanic. · Carpet is in good condition. No stains or tears but it has faded slightly over time as a result of the sunny climates of Southern California and Arizona · The front end has been rebuilt with all new parts. The rear CV joints and boots have also been replaced.Additional SpareParts to be included with the vehicle: Original Style round headlights with fog lights and connectors (if you prefer the classic look, Spare Trap Oxydizer,Spare tire jack, misc service itemparts. Here's the Bad/maintenance needs: · The exterior paint (hood, assenger compartment roof, nd trunk lid) are faded with "blotches" of missing paint. Because the original paint (Mercedes Benz code 587H, Cabernet Red" had lost much of it's clear coat in the same locations, had it painted by Maaco 5 years ago in June, 010. I'm afraid it was a so-so job and now it shows it. I really thought the new paint would hold up a lot longer than this :( · "MB tex" vinyl seats are in fair condition. There are a few cracks in the front seats and one tear about 3 inches long in the back rest of the driver's side seat near the lumbar area. The rear seat is in good condition. · The air conditioning is not working. A new OE GM "R4" compressor was installed 4 years ago so I'm not sure what the problem is. There is pressure in the system and the compressor clutch does engage but it's only blowing warm air. · Door locks are not operating due to a vacuum leak. This is pretty typical for these old Mercedes Benz's where many functions are dependent on vacuum. · The tires are pretty worn, ue to the front end being out of align. I had a frond end alignment done after the front end was rebuilt two years ago but it wasn't done properly and I didn't notice the tire wear until it was too late. It will need a new front end alignment and new tires. · There is a very slight vibration in the drive shaft/drive train that is noticeable above 55 mph. The vehicle is totally drivable but it just isn't as smooth as it was prior to having the drive shaft center bearing replaced a couple of years ago along with the flex disks on both ends. · The plastic hose fitting on the top of the radiator has a small coolant leak which prevents the system from being fully pressurized. I made an attempt to repair it with epoxy and a metal fitting and it actually worked for about a week but then developed another small leak.In summary, This rust free 1985 Turbo diesel sedan is a solid car with a great engine and transmission but will require some TLC to get it in tip top shape. I have made every attempt to accurately describe the condition of the vehicle so any potential bidders know exactly what they're getting. If you still have questions, ost them and I will answer them. I have set a reasonable reserve. If you know these Mercedes Benz diesels. TERMS: This vehicle is being sold as is, here is with no warranty.
