Description of 1989 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class SL560

1989 Mercedes 560SL black on black. Two owners (my ex signed the car over to me in March. hence the three title changes). absolutely every single maintenance record and this one has been babied and tenderly cared for every day of its sheltered exotic life. Paint. original. and beautiful. No dings or repairs to this sweet one. The black ragtop is original. soft and good. the plastic windows clean with no yellowing or clouds. Folded for a long time with the perfect hardtop in place. The leather seats are black. soft and pliable. The black dashboard has no cracks or dry spots. The burl wood is close to perfect. also not dry or cracked. The original Becker radio is in the trunk. along with its original safety kit and tools. The original cassette (I know. right) explaining the Becker radio along with its original car manual. 71. 00 miles. I replaced the original radio with a Bluetooth Blaupunckt. Carpeting is clean. the car comes with mean black rubber all weather mats. very edgy and actually practical. There were 8. 51 '89 560SL's produced. a jewel box car that cost a smooth 64. 00. 00 new. This car is attracting new buyers due to its iconic good looks. simplicity. and vault-like build quality. Total production from 1986 through 1989 came to 37. 18 units and prices rose a whopping $16. 00 from 1986's $48. 00 to $64. 30 in 1989. This is not the case. The higher mileage babies (these cars. according to Mercedes. are virtual tanks capable of 250. 00 - 300. 00 miles) will require greater maintenance costs that this cherished one won't have to face. Yes. of course. every little thing must be maintained by a fanatical mechanic whom one cherishes as I do Lyman in Hollywood and Westside Mercedes in Santa Monica. The sad cars can limp into your hands for under 8. 00. 00. This is not that kind of car. It's not concourse. shudder . having had a '64 Porsche 356SC European model. I would never want a car that cannot be driven because of fears of pebbles hitting it. fears of parking next to other cars. fears of . well. all those fears. The black bumper is powder coated. All the chrome has either been powder coated black or painted such as the windshield wipers. The Mercedes shield on the hood is black and all of the Mercedes thingies removed and in the trunk. It's rather mean and personal this way. while loving and respecting original everything. this is a mean edgy car that defines Rae Kawakubo's sense of savage beauty and the "black is the new black. "The back license plate actually has a thin black frame around it. Most don't. it took forever to find a thin enough plate and it looks rather more refined than without. The iPhone photos were taken under an ancient pepper tree for shade. I think you can see the depth of the paint. the shine is so lustrous. Photos are everything and these are. at minimum. disappointing. Poetry. Some cars are that and more. It's strange to me that the exquisite '72 280SL. yes I had one in the late '80's. paying about 12. 00. then. is now worth 80. 00. and these haven't gone crazy up. Not many prettier cars. I think. The hardtop is stored on a rolling rack. covered up nicely and stored. Tires are fine. This is sort of a get in and drive car. purring like a happy kitten. Relatively amused and annoyed at other listings that begin with "rare" and great condition then list all the issues. Not this one. This is not the under 10. 00. 00 kind that you thought was such a bargain and then turned into a monstrous money pit. One-owner pampered babies young enough under 100. 00 miles to avoid the pain of throwing more and more money at it. ever faster and faster. Relax. This is the good kind.
