Description of 1976 Mercedes-Benz S-Class |
Hello and thank you for visiting my listing,I am listing my 1976 280S for sale. I purchased it for restoration a few years ago but I have too many projects presently and need to sell a couple to have space to work on the rest. I was diagnosed with an illness in 2013 and it has slowed down my ability to work on these cars. About this car specifically,It does start, un and drive but MUST BE TOWED/HAULED TO ITS FINAL DESTINATION! Safety is important and this car should be gone over thoroughly before it is put back on the road for everyday use. The paint is in fair shape, t is an older repaint of fair quality. There is some crazing of the lacquer on the passenger rear of the roof. The chrome is in fair shape and the rubber trim is still pretty healthy. The front and rear glass gaskets probably need to be replaced, haven't driven the car in the rain and haven't had it on the road at all in the last two years. The "bundt" wheels are painted the correct factory astral silver and are in fantastic shape. The tires are old and definitely need to be replaced The sunroof works, he windows work but need to be adjusted and lubed. The interior is in really nice shape, ut the back seat needs its foam replaced. The AC does kick on, nd the blower works but the ACC (automatic climate control) version one that came with these cars is notorious for issues with its servo. I would recommend upgrading it with one of the newer versions available. The engine runs well for having a Solex carb with all the emissions nonsense still in place. There is an exhaust leak somewhere so the engine sounds louder than it should but not ridiculously so.Before returning this car to the road I would;-replace all coolant hoses-inspect brake components (I can't remember how much is left on the pads)-Replace passenger front brake soft line (from hard line to caliper) part included-replace brake fluid-service engine (ignition timing, il change, iming chain stretch, arb tuning)-inspect front suspension components and rear subframe-new tires I have tried to be as honest as possible with this listing but am by no means an expert. This is a really nice old S class that was not sold in the U.S. In carbureted form for very long at all. It will not take much labor to return this Mercedes to an industrial strength Teutonic daily driver. Please ask any and all questions prior to close of auction as all sales are final. I will answer as rapidly as I can. Thank you again for visiting my listing. Shipping arrangements MUST be made within ONE week of auction end. This means the car needs to be off of my property within ten days maximum. I will not wait around for a month while the buyer tries to find the cheapest shipper possible. Deposit must be made within 24 hours via PayPal, alance of payment is due within 5 days via cashiers check/money order. |
