Description of 1969 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class California Edition |
The Very Popular Mercedes 280SL
The "Pagoda" Mercedes convertible is one of their most popular—and fastest appreciating—sports cars. The removable pagoda-style hardtop offers virtually 360 degree vision and a distinctive style that is very popular.
Here are some features of this '69 280SL:
· Nice white exterior paint · 4-speed transmission · "California" removable hardtop/back seat
Paint and Chrome
The paint on this Pagoda looks bright and fresh, ndicative of a car that has been kept garaged since its repaint.
The chrome and stainless are all in good condition.
The car had some front-end body work done in the past and the repair and related paint work are hard to detect from the outside of the vehicle. There is some rust-through on the trunk floor, t the back of the front wheel wells and just in front of the rear tires, one of which is visible from the outside. The four jack points all appear solid.
This "California edition" SL has the removable pagoda hardtop and a rear seat in place of a convertible top.
Interior
The red M-B Tex seat upholstery is free from any rips or tears. This car has a rear seat that folds down to make a large package/suitcase storage area.
Engine
The 280SL has a 2.8 liter six cylinder engine, he final step in development for the SL six's. It is smooth-running and a pleasure to drive.
Transmission
The car's 4-speed manual transmission shifts properly on both up-shifts and down-shifts just as it should.
Tires, rakes, afety and Monitoring Systems
The car is currently equipped with Dunlop 195/70R14 tires. It has front disc brakes and stops straight and effortlessly.
All of the engine/systems monitoring gauges work properly. Similarly, he lights, orn, nd turn signals all work, lthough the clock, adio, eater and wipers will require some attention .
They Just don't get any More Collectible
The Mercedes "pagoda" series is among the most collectible (and desirable) of the Mercedes lineup that is still affordable. This is a car that the new owner will be able to enjoy while seeing his/her investment appreciate in value. Simply driving down the road, his is a car that everyone will give a "thumbs up" .
