*. * This 1980 (last year for the series) 450SEL was THE luxury sedan to have if you lived through the 1970's. Named car of the year in 1974 by road and track, his luxury tank was on everybody's wish list back in the day. This particular example is a true survivor, aving just emerged from a 15 year storage in it's northern California habitat, here it has always resided. Recently purchased from the 30 year, ong term 2nd owner who no longer drove it, his car has been a labor of love to bring back to life. The original mileage of 102, 00+/- is ture and correct on a working odometer and the tried and true 4.5 liter v8 still packs plenty of power upon acceleration. This example is finished in one of the prettiest color combinations I feel Mercedes ever paired together. The exterior is a silver blue (paint code 930) with a navy blue leather. The original paint is still quite shiny, ut there are nicks and scratches to be found on all panels of this car. Many have been touched up with the correct color paint. From 10 feet, he paint looks great. The leather interior is certainly in better than average condition for a car of this age, owever the drivers seat bolsters are aged with wear cracks and the center armrest looks a tad tired as well. The dash has a few small cracks, ut still looks good overall and the wood is VERY well preserved in this car. No cracking or fading to be found! The radio is a circa 1985 Pioneer super tuner that sounds surprisingly good! The car really is a joy to drive and feels quite tight for the age, owever at speeds over 65, here is some vibration as the tires are no younger than 15 years old. With new tires, he ride would be quite superb indeed. Vacuum locks seem to work slowly on all 4 doors, ut the trunk and gas door seem to not be included in it's functions. The gas gauge has not worked yet, ut at some point it may awake from it's 15 year slumbe, s all the other gauges work fine. Climate control works but a/c needs a freon charge. Power sunroof works, ut occasionally needs a hand assist when it gets stuck, ither opening or closing. Instrument cluster lights are out, ut lights for the climate control, ransmission shifter and toggle switches above the climate control all work fine. New fuel pump and filter and newer battery. And i guess that is it. Please ask any and all question PRIOR to placing your bid. I reserve the right to end the auction early as the car is for sale locally.
