Description of 1967 Mercedes-Benz Other Convertible |
1967 Mercedes-Benz 230SL in original Dark Red (original color - 542) with Black Leather Interior. 2.3L 6-cylinder engine. 4-speed manual trans. Hard top, lack soft top, orrect wheel covers & rings. brand new whitewalls. 2-owners since 1995 with lots of service records. Recent fluids service and front brakes. This is a fabulous example of a car regarded as one of the finest to ever come from the Stuttgart firm, ith timeless, raceful styling, pirited performance and handling, nd build quality and reliability second to none. This 230SL is a very nice driver. Mercedes debuted the 230SL (designated W113 internally) at the Geneva Auto Show in March 1963, o great acclaim. Exterior styling was a departure for Mercedes, hich had until that point relied on rounded, ven bulbous curves to characterize its automobiles. But the 230SL bordered on square, ulled off through the use of clean, legant lines, ntelligent placement of the wheels in proportion to the rest of the design, nd a tall, pagoda" removable hard top that allowed for ease of ingress and egress Cabin refinement set the 230SL apart from the competition, ith acres of leather, lush, upportive seats, ig, eadable gauges, laupunkt radios, nd a very high-quality level of craftsmanship throughout, ncluding the soft top, hich disappeared easily and unobtrusively when not in use. The 230SL was an unqualified success, ith sales topping even the best sales year for the 190SL. This was in some measure due to the car's genuine ability to perform. Top speed was rated at about 125, nd handling was described as neutral, ith light, alanced steering, ven at the limit. And while they were not originally intended as competition cars, he sturdy, eliable 230 made a suitable and quite successful rally machine, ncluding a famous win in the grueling Spa-Sofia-Liege Rally. The 230SL would remain in production until early 1967, ith just under 20,000 models built over the 5-year production span, t which point it was succeeded first by the 250SL and then the 280SL. Included with this fabulous 230SL roadster are original owner's books, ata card, ervice records, arFax report.
