Description of 1979 Mercedes-Benz 200-Series 240D |
Very good condition Mercedes 240D with rarer manual transmission - 4 speed. I am the second owner. Original owner took great care of this car and owned it until he died. Seats are in excellent condition with no tears or rips. They were covered by sheepskins most of their lives. There are the expected cracks in the dash. Carpets are very good. Interior is in great shape. It has a working sunroof and even includes the original medicine kit. Exterior is mostly original. There are signs of repairs and repaint in small areas. Original matching hubcaps are included. Rear tires are new Michelin 80K warranty with a few thousand miles. Fronts came with car and have a few thousand miles left on them. There is no rust through on this car as it spent its life in the west. It does have a few surface rust spots and small dents. Paint is shiny and polishes up well. I drove this car to Montana and back in May without a hiccup. AC is present but does not cool. It is still the old R-12 system. Heat works fine. Original radio works as it should. I was told and believe that the original owner had the engine replaced about 100K ago with a brand new from MB in Germany engine. It runs like it and consumes no oil. Very smooth. The flex disks on the drive shaft are new. I have changed the transmission and differential oils. I have replaced the shocks, uffler, il pan gasket, low plugs with pencil type, ear tires, ewired the glow plugs so if one fails the others still work, luids. I have had all the wheels balanced and the front end aligned. I have taken the ash tray and added 3 12 volt sockets in the cover. This is a 35 year old car, ut it runs and drives great. Looks good. Great for your high school daughter as it is built like a tank and will not go fast enough to hurt anyone. ;-) It does go down the highway at interstate speeds. Downshifting is required to go up hills or get on the interstate. These cars are used for taxis all over the world. Hence there a millions of them around. New and used parts are readily available. Lots on ebay. Lots of great websites with step by step howtos and forums to ask your questions. |
