Description of 1987 Mercedes-Benz 300-Series |
This wagon was brought to the mechanic in running condition several months ago because the brakes were spongy (although I drove it down a 45 degree incline, stopping a the bottom with no problem). The mechanic did brake pads and then said the bleeder valve was stuck so he could not bleed the brake lines. He also said the transmission began having trouble while driving it between shop and lot although it was not clear what the issue there was. At that point it was decided to scrap the car since it was not worth the cost to replace the brake components and fix the transmission issue. It has been sitting on his lot since, as life issues piled up. There's rust around a couple of wheel wells, and the adjustable heated seats do not work, but the inside is clean, tires are good, engine was running well when delivered, and the ac/compressor was good. The car was purchased from the first owner, who was a high level MB executive. He said it had custom options on it that supposedly were not available from the factory. You would have to deal with the brake bleeding and tranny to get it back on the street and I've not run it or driven it since it went to the mechanic so it is selling as-is for parts. It will be pickup-onlyin Huntington Station, NY so if you want it shipped you will have to arrange that yourself. But I would think it could be worth somebodys time if they wanted a clean 300TD station wagon and could do the work it needed. If I was a mechanic, I would have gotten the parts and fixed it myself. Will need two days notice prior to pick-up so the mechanic can move it forward from the back of the lot. |
