Description of 1979 Mercedes-Benz 400-Series 6.9

You are bidding on a Very Rare, Solid Southern 1979 Mercedes 6.9 with great owner history. The car has the 6.9L V8 Engine, and Automatic transmission. It is Astral Silver with Blue Leather interior. These cars were way ahead of their time with overhead cams, Dry Sump Oiling, Aluminum Heads, Antilock brakes, Hydraulic self-leveling suspension, and heated seats! These cars were the last of the big cubic inch big power Luxury cars! And at over $40,000 new in 1979 only a few were Fortunate enough to own one! Needless to say these are rare cars.

The car left the factory with the following factory options:

410 - ELECTRIC SLIDING ROOF

494 - CALIFORNIA VERSION

518 - BECKER RADIO MEXICO CASSETTE FULL STEREO (AM/FM - U.S.A.)

531 - AUTOMATIC ANTENNA

581 - AUTOMATIC CLIMATE CONTROL

592 - GREEN HEAT-INSULATING GLASS ALL ROUND, HEATED REAR WINDOW, LAMINATED SAFETY GLASS - TINTED

639 - ELIMINATION OF FIRST-AID BOX AND WARNING TRIANGLE

735 - ASTRAL SILVER METALLIC

809 – BHUTAN

870 - ELECTRIC SEAT HEATER FOR LEFT FRONT SEAT

871 - ELECTRIC SEAT HEATER FOR RIGHT FRONT SEAT

The car was bought new by NBA Star Rick Robey. He traded the car in at Phoenix Mtr Mercedes in 1986. The second owner Mr. Borrell Smith of Mesa Arizona Purchased the car from Phoenix Motor Co (Mercedes Dealer), for $19,740 with 64,237 Miles on it. Mr. Smith kept kept great records of everything he did to the car from august 9 1986 to March 20 1988. He kept a little note book and wrote down everything from when he bought it. He wrote down previous owners information, dealer where he bought it, the salesman he bought it from, every oil change, wax, service, everything. I even have some service records from when he had service performed. March 20Th 1988 is the last entry in his book. Mr. Smith would later bring the car to Tennessee. In 2012 Mr Smith died and his Daughter inherited the car. I bought the car in November of 2015.

The car currently will run but is very cold natured. It seems it is not getting enough gas. I have driven down my drive way and backed it back up but have not tried to drive it down the road. The motor seems to run good when you pour gas in it. The car is very solid, but the paint is faded as you can see in the pictures. The interior is complete and the dash does have some cracks in it as you would expect from a car that spent most of it life in Arizona. The rear suspension seems to operate like it should but the front suspension has a clip broke of the linkage that tells the front to go up and down. The front is currently blocked up so the front wheels will turn. This would make a great car to fix up and great collector car with so few being made.
