Description of 1985 Mercedes-Benz 500-Series |
VIN: WDB1260441A183121 Left Hand Drive 1985 Mercedes 500 SEC Bruno Sacco created a masterpiece of a car when he designed the Mercedes Benz W126 and C126 S-class sedans and coupes. My car was imported from Japan earlier this year and is for sale now. It was imported under the 25 year rule, which exempts it from all DOT and EPA regulations. I have customs paperwork and a free and clear WA title. Let me give you the details: 107k Kilometers = 66.5k Miles Acrtic white (737) with blue Velour (972A) in immaculate conditionJapan Version (498) with short European bumpers and European headlights with working vacuum controlled adjustment.Correctly done upgrade to factory 15 inch wheels and smooth door panels (Sacco Bretter). Climate control is working flawlessly with ice cold A/C, blowing through all vents.Power windows, door locks and sunroof, all lights inside and out and seat belt extenders are working perfectly. No warning lights on.New headliner. Very powerful engine compared to the anemic 1984/85 US Spec. 500 SEL/SEC models.Excellent shifting transmission without delays. No fluid leaks.Drives "rock tight" without any steering play, vibration or rattling. I cannot detect any signs of a prior accident. The paint appears mostly original, howeverthe left front fender and left rear quarter panel may have been re-painted. I cannot visually see it, however my paint gauge shows the paint being a little thicker. I had and still have W126s; this 1985 500 SEC is one of the "tightest" one I have ever owned. Due to this fact, I have absolutely no doubt about the accuracy of the 107k kilometers showing on the odometer. There is Japanese paperwork and stickers on the car showing the original low kilometers. It also has the original and correct Japanese speedometer (AFAIK only Japanese market cars had white indicator numbers from 0-80 kmph and orange numbers starting at 100 kmph). All the numbers on the odometer and trip odometer line up properly. Unfortunately Mercedes had a problem with blue dashboards developing cracks. This car was not spared. As you can see in the pictures there are cracks on either side of the dash going to the speakers. I have a blue hard plastic dashboard cover which goes with the car. Also, the power antenna and cruise control don't work.It has a Japanese market Carrozzeria stereo which plays only on their frequencies(76-90 MHz). US frequencies are from 88-108 MHz. This will be a great opportunity to install a correct US Becker stereo. If you like a classic, well preserved Mercedes Coupe, this is the car for you. I would not hesitate to drive this car across the country. The car is now 31 years old and therefore does not come with any warranties either expressed or implied. I gladly arrange for shipping, either domestic or international (out of Long Beach, CA)Ich spreche Deutsch. NOTICE TO BUYERS IN CALIFORNIA:Even though it's exempt from any EPA and DOT regulations and smog-exempt in Washington (and many other states) as a vehicle that is 25 years and older, it CANNOT be registered in California without a lot of unnecessary expenses due to their outlandishly overbearing and bureaucratic requirements. CA buyers will have to title it in a different state.I WILL NOT provide a smog certificate. |
