Collector quality automobile!
Paint has a show quality shine and well complimented with anabundance of bright chrome trim. This car also sports an elegant original red pin stripe down both sides. Grey leather interior shows beautifully and interior burlwood trim also has a show quality shine. Both original hard top and (OEM) soft top are in excellent condition. The soft top looks likenew and is very easy to open and close. The hard top is my favorite way to drive the car andcatches the most attention. It has a few minor paint blemishes (no rust) but you really have tolook hard to see them. The Yokohama tires have less than 200 miles on them. Mechanically the vehicle runs fantastically. It is absolutely fun to drive!! Smooth idle plus strong and smooth gear shifts through acceleration and deceleration. Ice cold AC works fantastically. Original Becker Grand Prix Radio sounds great considering itwas installed into the car 28 yearsago! And the automatic aerial works flawlessly. Engine bay is all original and exceptionally clean. Undercarriage is very clean - there are no oil leaks.Sporting new, much sleeker and more elegantEuro style bumpers. -- this is definitely one ofthe absolutely best examples of the legendary R107 available anywhere. The original US style bumpers are also available for delivery if the new owner wants them. Butwho would prefer those over the Euro bumpers which the R107 MBSL Series was designed byMercedes to feature, not the ugly and bulbous US versions thatmost other 560SLs still havemounted?? Comes with hard roof stand and custom made hard roof cover. Brand new window seals on the hard top - these are the pricy OEM seals, not the cheap rip-offs.
Comes with all original accessories including tools and fully stocked first aid kit. Carpets have always been covered with protective covering, which was removed for the photos. They appear like new carpets and feature the Mercedes Benzlogo (Black over Grey). Pre-purchase inspection is welcome! Hagerty values this car at $60,000 based on a 1.5 condition valuation. Located in Charleston, South Carolina. This 1988 Mercedes-Benz 560SL is the one for true collectors. The rare pearl grey painthas a great sunny day shine, but the low 33,380 miles (averaging less than 1,190 milesannually) and overall fantastic presentation lets you know this luxury machine has beentreated with the respect it deserved since day one. I have never been stopped on thestreets and parking lots by so many people who are delighted by the look of this car. None of my other cars draw so much attention. This 560SL is part of the now legendary R107 model designation. These cars are iconicbecause they represent an era when very few companies could build a convertiblewithout worrying about safety regulations. Mercedes crafted their cars so robustly thatthe R107 exceeded these standards, and they did it elegantly without anunsightly rollbar. Today it remains elegant, powerful, comfortable, timeless, andnimble–a classicthat can do everything. It was the go-to driver for celebrities, dignitaries, and the wealthybecause the sleek lines hid a full size interior and usable trunk that was perfect for anyroad trip. This one has added value because of the immense care that has been takento be sure the body lines and trim are close to pristine. The Pearl Grey exterior has thekind of flare that draws the right kind of attention, but it retainsits full sophisticationthanks to the subtle red pinstripe, perfect and plentiful chrome accents inside andoutside, and those iconic Mercedes alloy wheels. The black folding roof matches sonicely with the euro style bumpers and elegant matching rubber sideprotectors, that thiscar almost has a two-tone presence, and when you want a coupe-like profile, theoptional hardtop goes on with Teutonic precision and has reminiscent of the style of theexquisite Pagoda. The 560SL was one of the most expensive cars Mercedes offered during its reign, andso the features list is quite long. This includes desirable conveniences such as powerwindows, power locks, power steering, front & rear defrost, powered antennae, driversairbag, cruise control, third brake light, and the correct Becker Grand PrixAM/FM/cassette stereo. It means this luxury convertible will keep you very comfortableeven when the top is down.
The 560SL came with a big 5.6-liter V8 motor making 238 hp and 287 lb-ftof torque–more than the contemporary Rolls-Royces. On the road, an R107 has a fully-independent chassis that is the perfect balance of elastic comfort and tight-handling. The four-speed automatic transmission also strikes a balance between performanceand overdrive comfort cruising. The total package is finished off with four-wheel disc brakes that include ABS. They say that class is something that can't be bought, but purchasingthis 560SL provesthem all wrong. Harder and harder to find such quality with low mileage like this, and asclean as this, with the fantastic Euro bumpers--this one will go fast!!
