Highly Documented It says a lot about a car. and its owner. when after 50 years on the road it still looks and drives like new. Such is the case with this incredibly well preserved and highly original 1967 250 SL. The short one-year production of the 250 SL makes this car the rarest of the "Pagoda" series W113. especially in the U. S. market. The 250 SL offered the early styling of the 230 SL. but with the noticeably increased performance of the 2. 5 L engine. Other improvements on the 250 SL included four wheel disc brakes. improved engine cooling. and an extra 17 liters of fuel capacity. The example presented here was purchased new and picked up directly from the factory in Stuttgart. The original payment receipt shows the car was purchased by check. by the original and sole owner. for 11. 70. 00 Deutsche Mark. After taking delivery of the vehicle on October 10. 1967. the car was driven in and around Europe on tourist permits. until eventually loaded aboard a Lockheed Hercules aircraft for export to Venezuela. Many of these documents from the import and Venezualan registration remain with the vehicle today. One of only a few 250 SLs in the entire country. it was certainly a cherished item. In 1981 the original owner moved to the US. and of course brought his prized 250 SL along with him. The original data card still accompanies this car today. An item rarely seen in its original form. reflecting the careful ownership this car experienced in it 47 years of service. The car was highly optioned. receiving 2 kg of laquer paint. chrome hardtop trim. and a limited-slip differential. We can see from the data card that the car still sports its original engine. and highly attractive original color combination of White (DB-050) with Medium Blue interior and Medium Blue (DB-350) roof and wheels. It is an elegant combination that we have rarely seen on other Pagodas. After receiving the car from the original owners family. we treated it to a comprehensive service. including brakes. engine. and transmission. as well as a full detail of the undercarriage. interior. and exterior. The condition of the carpeting was not up to the same high standards seen on the rest of the car. so the decision was made to replace it completely with the original style German Squareweave provided by GAHH. The car drives wonderfully today. and the cosmetics and structural components are as fantastic as one would suspect with such a well preserved and unmolested car. Accompanying the vehicle at sale are the original books and pouch. along with extensive documentation. original tool kit. and the original data card.
