Because Ebay does not recognize European VINs, I listed the car as a 1980. Please note that it is a 1992.
This Mercedes Coupe was legally imported in 2017 under the 25 year old NHTSA exemption rule. This car is absolutely legal in the US and is sold with a valid Florida title as well as all import documents showing its legal status.
Please note that because this is a European car, the odometer and speedometer are in km. I will leave the original French plates on the car for more authenticity but can remove them easily.
It took me the better part of a year to find this exquisite Mercedes 300 CE Sportline for my personal use. Once I had it thoroughly inspected with confirmation of its unbelievable condition I did not hesitate to purchase it knowing how rare a CE Sportline Getrag manual transmission is, even in Europe.
I must say that deciding to invest in its acquisition was easy based on the recent history of the car in the hands of the prior owner who spent an astonishing 36,000 Euros ($45,000 at current exchange rate) at the local Mercedes dealership in repairs, preventive and normal maintenance in 10 years of ownership as shown in the receipts. There is an interesting story as to the motivation in spending that huge amount of money, which I will relay to the next owner …
Going through the stack of receipts, 90% of the work was done at the Nice, France Mercedes dealership and includes all the known shortcomings of this model. Pretty much everything was done including head gasket, clutch, overhauled cooling system, chain tensioners, steering box, belts, AC conversion to 134A gas (blows super cold), etc.. I have a receipt dated August 2015 from the Mercedes dealership when the car had 148K miles for a major service totaling over $12,500 !!!!! Even the super rare on-a-coupe SLS was fully serviced and the battery is Mercedes branded … Absolutely no short cuts were ever taken when servicing this car.
The Sportline chassis and suspension as well as the “dogleg” Getrag transmission and the 24V engine makes this W124 Coupe a “big” sports car but is still comfortable as a Mercedes should be. This engine loves to rev and the manual transmission allows to feel the “second breath” of the multi valves motor around 3,500 RPM with a strong pull. In addition the car is very, very tight and responsive.
It stays however a luxury car as it cruises along on the interstate like a grand touring car in comfort, silence and smoothness. The brakes are powerful, the shifting is smooth and easy and the steering is very precise. This is a true driver’s car in the Mercedes Sportline fashion. This 300CE pulls straight with no shaking, weird noises or anything that could distract from the pure driving pleasure. As a matter of fact, the blend of sportiveness and luxury is evident at idle or at cruising speeds when one cannot even hear the engine running.
I am a big fan of those W124, the last of the true Mercedes. In my mind, no other car, and certainly not the newer ones, can match this level of built quality, elegance, performance and reliability. I have owned several of them (wagons, sedans & coupes) and am always in awe at the engineering that went into this model. The manual dogleg Getrag transmission here really makes that wonderful 6 cylinder motor come alive and shifting is –dare I say it- BMW buttery smooth.
Since import last year, I have been driving the car on a regular basis and every time I decide to sell it, I just take a short drive and I change my mind ! But this is it. Things change in life and I now must let it go.
The car was sold new in Genoa Italy, allegedly to a wealthy businessman, then was purchased and moved to the neighboring French Riviera where it remained until I imported it last year. The car has absolutely no rust .
In November of 2015, the previous owner had a licensed automobile expert make an appraisal. This report is very thorough and came back at a value of 19.000 Euros ($23,750), which is way above the average value of a similar model; Definitely a testament to the unbelievable condition of the car.
This 300CE Sportline retains its original Mercedes tool pouch and spare, as well as its first aid kit. Absolutely everything works (not even a missing pixel in the outside temperature display) except for the passenger “seat belt presenter” and the passenger electric headrest. That is it. All other functions operate as they should.
On the outside, 1 scratch on the front fender lower body cladding and some scuffing on both corners of the rear bumper.
The car is sold with the 17” AMG wheels with brand new tires as pictured. However, the original 15” rims are available if the new owner prefers them.
There is a lot more to say about this car and how special it is, so I will be happy to talk to serious interested parties as I would very much prefer to sell to someone who appreciates this timeless classic Coupe and will enjoy it as much as I have.
This car is ready to be enjoyed right now without any work needed. This version of the classic C124 Coupe was never sold in North America in Sportline and Getrag manual transmission. This is truly a one-of-a-kind car on our shores …
I welcome viewings and inspections in Orlando, FL by appointment only. More detailed photos are available upon serious request.
I have set what I believe to be a reasonable and realistic Buy-It-Now price on this rare and desirable Mercedes, and I am open to smart, true and serious offers. Do not waste my time with ridiculous offers. This is a really, really nice and special car unlike 99% of them for sale.
Please have funds ready prior to committing yourself with the purchase. I take my listings very seriously and expect the same from you. Furthermore, because of the rise of non-paying bidders now prowling on Ebay, I reserve the right to cancel any bid / offer I find suspicious and report the person.
You are welcome to contact me via Ebay to discuss any other details not mentioned in this listing.
I NEVER charge bogus dealer fees and your winning bid is the actual purchase price.
By law, Florida residents will have to pay sales tax. Buyers from out of state wanting to drive the car home will have to pay their county’s sales tax rate with me and show proof of insurance prior to driving out. If the purchaser from out of state ships the car, no FL sales tax will be collected and buyer will pay his / her local taxes when the car is registered. No exceptions to those rules can be made. Again, this is the law…
