Description of 1980 Mercedes-Benz 200-Series

INTRO:I have reluctantly decided to sell this stunning. concours award winning 1980 240D from my collection. It is a completely and extensively restored 2 owner car with 190K miles. I have owned it for the past 13 years. putting on only 40K miles. and my intention was to keep it forever. Thus. I have fixed and replaced items as good or better than new. with an obsessive attention to the smallest detail. BACKGROUND W123: Designed by Bruno Saco. Mercedes-Benz introduced the W123 chassis in January of 1976 and ended in 1985 as the most successful selling Mercedes in history. The W123 was quite a progressive vehicle with many advances over its predecessor. It represented the latest in technology and safety. Suspension. steering and braking systems provided competent handling and a comfortable ride. Serviceability. ergonomics and appearance were all improved. The diesel drivetrain was remarkably refined compared to anything produced in the US. These vehicles are known to last for hundreds of thousands of miles with maintenance and basic care. http://vimeo. com/111205857 MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR HISTORY: Soon after receiving the car. I had the entire body restored which included door and body panels replaced. Paint work used single stage Urethane Enamel in the factory code 623 Light Ivory. The multiple coat single stage paint was able to be wet sanded and buffed. which eliminated orange peel. All documentation and paperwork since new. I have performed the smaller tasks. all detailing and cosmetics. Car has won awards in many car shows. including two Regional Concours 1st place trophies. All the doors line up perfectly with factory gaps between panels. The doors shut with the heavy factory thud found on all older Mercedes Benz. Once inside. the seat is comfortable and the vision from the new windshield is excellent. Every time the key is turned. there is anticipation and excitement! The car starts up immediately with the normal clacking. purring sound of a fine-tuned diesel engine. Idle speed is adjusted with the lever. The acceleration is without hesitation. and it is very quick for a diesel. The Transmission has been rebuilt. and shifts perfectly. The steering wheel feels great with the leather wrapped cover. it drives straight and there are no pulls or vibration. Braking is excellent. and the new shocks and springs hold the car stable. The A/C system has been completely gone through and has been converted to R134. It blows cold. with no issues. The sound of then engine when driving is. very mechanical and pleasing. It does purr! Easy to drive without the radio on! The cruise speed can be easily maintained up to 85 mph. There is a feeling of pride when viewing other drivers admire the car!VALUE & PRICING: According to Hagerty classic car valuation “ Vehicle Condition #1 vehicles are the best in the world. The visual image is of the best car. in the right colors driving on the lawn at the finest concours. Perfectly clean. the car has been groomed down to the tire treads. Painted and chromed surfaces are mirror-like. Dust and dirt are banned. and materials used are correct and superbly fitted. The one word description for #1 cars is ‘concours’ ". Their pricing for #1 cars is only $12. 00. Although this remarkable car is not quite like the description. it is very close. Based on my experience of researching Mercedes Benz cars and pricing for the past 15 years. this car has to rank among the top ten in the country - regardless of miles! Most owners would not fully restore a 240D because the value of the average car is fairly low. ranging from $1. 00 to $6. 00. This unique car has had the time. effort and money spent on it. as I planned to keep it. Now all the new owner has to do is drive and enjoy this great car. And. it is ready for shows. weekend or daily driving. Potential buyers are those that are detail oriented. love the Mercedes brand. and want the very best available. Good luck in bidding!^ Pictured on the lawn at the Chicago Concours as one of the class winners
