Exterior:This car was black from new and has been repainted at some point over the years. There is small amount of evidence on the windshield rubber which gives away the re-paint.Of course, there are blemishes, small scratches and the occasional dent in the bodywork. This is a 48 year old car after all. With a good hand/machine polish I think this bodywork will really be great again, even better if you have a small dent popper!
All 4 fender lips are in amazing condition, really surprised. Clearly all owners have removed any build-up of dirt from here and prevented corrosion.
The chrome work is generally good, with only discoloration visible under and inside the bumpers. The grill is in good condition but has two dents.
Glass is very good and as far as I can see, original.
All doors close with a reassuring clunk. Both the hood and trunk open and close easily, although the hood release cable & spring could probably do with replacing in the near future as it doesn't return to the closed position. The trunk lid seal has recently been replaced with a new one, following evidence of water accumulating in the trunk after washing the car.
Interior:'Cognac' (Tan) seats and door panels are in very good condition. The seats present extremely well for their age and usage. The door panels look almost new with the exception of the map pocket missing on the driver's door. The carpet is also in good shape. Floor mats have clearly been used from new.The headlining looks like new, this car has clearly not been smoked in.
There are a couple of cracks in the dash top. Please refer to pictures. All instruments, switches, controls and original radio all work well. Both the quarter-light door glass open smoothly when the dial is turned on the doors.
Motor & Transmission:Engine fires up easily and holds an idle nicely utilizing the manual choke. The car pulls effortlessly and never gets hot or makes any unusual noises or smells.
The transmission shifts easily and doesn't whine or jump out of gear.
Steering, Suspension, Wheels & Tires:The steering is manual so it is heavy when parking or maneuvering at low speed, but there are no noises or knocks from the steering system. The suspension is soft and well controlled. No signs of weak dampers or worn bushes whilst driving.Wheels and hub caps are original. All 4 white-wall style tires have good tread. The spare looks to be the original one.
Corrosion:As a New ENgland car, there are a few areas which could do with a little work.- The right side rocker panel has a hole half way along it (can be seen in pictures). Can be patched.- The right rear door has a hole. Again can be easily patched.- The trunk floor has had work done to it by a previous owner. They have cut-out and replaced a section. This should really be done again using a Mercedes floor panel. The rest of the trunk area and wheel wells are solid.
