Description of 1972 Mercedes-Benz 200-Series 280SE 4.5l 8600 Miles |
This 1972 Mercedes 280SE 4.5 was acquired in a deal that involved six other vehicles out of a barn at a house in Southern California from a well know British car collector who also owned a number of Mercedes. It was then registered in Arizona and brought into a shop in Phoenix for a full restoration and sat in the shop for five years before the current owner has decided to part with it. The odometer works and is a certified A-DOT Arizona title that states 8561 miles, this is an actual mile title and can be verified with the state of Arizona. All the vin numbers on the car match include the ones under the hood and in the doors. This vintage Mercedes is a fine example of a sought after collectors car and will continue to increase in value, buy it and drive it or fully restore it to concours condition. This 1972 Mercedes 280SE 4.5 has a sunroof and floor shifter which was very rare for the 280SE models. The body on this Mercedes is in excellent condition and very solid, it is what you’d expect from a car that has never seen snow and rain maybe a handful of times through out its life. This was a southern California car for 40 years then in Arizona so there’s no rust or rot on the frame or the body except for a dime size spot on the trunk which is visible in the pictures. The floors and the trunk are rock solid and the under carriage of this car is extremely clean, the engine bay is also free of any signs of rust or rot. The paint is in great shape and shows no signs of fading, peeling or wear, I do not believe it is the original color because the door jams and under the hood are a slightly different color brown. All of the of the panels line up and there are no unusual gaps. The doors all open and close as they should along with the trunk and hood. The sunroof slides back and forth flawlessly along with all the windows but the window switches are not currently in the car. There is a little missing paint on the driver side fender from what appears to be the car slightly rubbing up against something along with a slight indentation. The interior is caramel colored light brown and clean but it’s evident that this vehicle sat in a dry climate with peeling on some of the wood and the drivers seat has some of the leather split and missing. The floor carpet for both the drivers side and passenger side isn’t original but is present. A couple of the door trim pieces have missing clips. The dash is clean and all the buttons works as they should but the wood is dried out and has lost its finish and the radio isn’t the original. The headlight knob has broke off the headlights need to be turned on and off with your fingers but all the interior lights work and everything else functions as it should. This Mercedes runs and drives excellent, stops on a dime and accelerates with great power and no hesitation. It doesn’t smoke and the motor is very quiet even when started. It starts with no issues even after sitting for weeks. It shifts great and goes into every gear from a stop with no noises and without any difficulties. It floats on the road, make no noises when turning the wheel in either direction and corners great. The fuel injected 4.5 engine really puts you in your seat when the pedal is put to the floor. The oil is clean along with the coolant. It leaks a little oil when it sits for a while. The car doesn’t overheat even on the hottest of days and all the gauges work. This 1972 Mercedes 280SE 4.5 is a rare model with very rare options and extremely low miles. It runs and drives great so you have options, drive it on the weekends or invest some money and time and have yourself a very valuable vehicle. This is one of the lowest mile Mercedes 280SE 4.5 with the rare options it has that is currently offered for sale. If you have any questions feel free to contact me at 860-970-6452, I’m selling the vehicle on behalf of the current owner but will do whatever I can to answer any questions. This is the only place the vehicle is offered for sale so the car will go to the highest bidder. Thank you and good luck bidding! |
