Description of 1984 Mercedes-Benz 300-Series |
Here is a better than average example of this highly regarded MB model. In case you don't know this already, the 300d Turbo was only available for the North American market. About 75K of them were sold 1981 to 1985. Purchased by me a year ago from a local seller who only kept it six months. He bought it from the original owners grandson. The car was originally sold in Fremont, CA, and immediately driven by the purchaser to his home in Bellingham, WA, where it stayed until I moved it to Seattle. It was always garaged when not being driven. Included is the original sales receipt, window sticker, sales literature, owners manual/service book. Service records for the first 100K miles. What makes this car especially appealing besides the silver blue metallic exterior color (I would not have bought it had it been any other color), is the car's condition in spite of having over 200K miles. These 123 series cars are literally cliché makers for durable machines, especially the diesels, but as any savvy car buyer knows, they still have to be maintained and operated with respect. I can confidently say that this car needs nothing. It doesn't leak fluids, smoke excessively, consume oil. The engine starts/stops instantly. No excessive blow by from the oil filler opening. It still returns 24-26 mpg. No rust to speak of anywhere. There is some leading edge chipping of the paint, pretty much consistent with the mileage. There are a couple of dings/creases visible in the photos. I had never driven one of theses TD equipped MB's prior to this car, but I can't imagine a new one would perform any better. Everything works as it should! If I were to keep the car, I would simply continue to detail the small things I have identified that the car would need to be a show class car for high mileage survivors. The wheels will need to be re-finished as the silver paint is worn and flaking off to some extent on all 5 wheels. I have decided to sell the car because it simply is not the car for me, and I am not in a position to have multiple cars, sadly. Concerning the interior: No rips, tears, cracks, sags anywhere. A few very small areas of fading/discoloration due to age. All the rubber seals are intact with only minor cracking. All body drains are clear and functional. I have more pictures available. The files are bigger than the 12mb max for ebay. Amazingly, the original first aid kit is un-opened. Here is a brief list of documented things done to the car while in my charge:1) 5 new Michelin Defender tires.2) 4 new Bilstein shocks, 1 new Bilstein steering damper (the car still had the original Mahles on it, and they were still in usable condition).3) All new fluids and filters. Belts/hoses all in excellent condition.4) Valve clearance check/adjust.5) Transmission and rear drive axle checked/serviced by MB Lynnwood, WA.6) Air conditioning converted to hydrocarbon refrigerant (REDTEK A/C).7) 1 ball joint replaced with wheel alignment.8) All new brake rotors/pads.9) Purchased/used fitted outdoor grade car cover from Covercraft (included).10) Fuel system purge.11) Full set of color matched Coco Mats, including console.12) Received 250000 KM mileage award from MB North America. Includes certificate and grille badge. I believe this car is easily better than Hagerty #3 (good) $6900, and slightly less than #2 (excellent) $9400. I have more high resolution photos available. |
