Description of 1984 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Convertible SL |
Up for sale is a 1984 Mercedes 280 SL Euro Model, VIN #WDB1070421A006841. The listed VIN is NOT for this car because eBay will not allow a Euro VIN. The primary differences with the Euro from the US SL’s of the same time are the smaller 6-cylinder motor instead of the V8, the smaller front and rear bumpers and the single headlights. This car has had the headlights upgraded to the 4 bulb US model but retains the original Euro bumpers. This car was purchased in 1994 from an insurance company with rear end damage. Because of the damage and insurance claim the title is rebuilt. The car had 67,000 miles on it at that time. The damage was primarily sheet metal but affected both quarter panels and the trunk just above the bumper. The rear quarters and trunk were replaced all as one section. The old sheet metal was removed at the spot weld locations and the new installed. The car was completely repainted and has been an occasional driver since 1995. The soft top has been replaced and the car also has the original hard top that are both in excellent condition. The paint is still in excellent condition as it has been stored inside since being rebuilt and the interior is in overall great condition with the exception of one small tear in the driver seat. The car has had the power steering pump, fuel pump relay, front brakes, tie rods and other suspension components replaced within the last 1,000 miles. The car starts right up and drives out great! Everything is currently working as it’s supposed to and it is overall an excellent car. NADA values show it to be around $24,500 for average retail. I’m asking less than a third of that only because of the title history. These older SL’s continue to increase in value and if you would like to get into one of these for less than collector money and enjoy driving it then this would be the one for you. The car is sold As-is so please ask questions before auction end. Please email me with any questions. Thanks! |
