Description of 1977 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class 300D, SSK, 500SL, 560 SL, 560SL, Convertable |
1977 Mercedes Benz 450SL Roadster Convertible. Two Tops 121k original miles. 4. 5 V8. Options include hard and soft tops. power windows. cruise. and a/c. As the link below explains. the value of the '77 450SL convertibles is steadily increasing. The later 70's 4. 5 V8 models are particularly desirable; the engines have higher compression and increased horsepower and the body has lots of chrome accents and bumpers that follow the trim and contours of the body; new for the 77 model year the SL was fitted with a continuous fuel injection system. as well as transistorized ignition which increased throttle response and MPG as well as being more reliable overall. The 77 and 78's were the last years of the higher horsepower V8's; the 1980 450SL saw horsepower drop noticeably due to stricter pollution controls. http://www. hagerty. com/price-guide/1977-Mercedes~Benz-450SLMechanical: The SL has always been regularly maintained by the dealer. everything feels just as it should; she's powerful. smooth and quiet. just a pleasure on the highway cruising along at 75. On the last visit to the Mercedes dealer the car got the fuel system and injectors cleaned with two injectors being replaced as well as a full tuneup. new Mercedes battery. power steering flush. coolant flush and brakes all around with two of the brake hoses replaced. In the last few years she got a new radiator and hoses. new alternator. a/c system retrofitted to modern freon. new starter. new section of exhaust. new engine mounts. nbsp;and new valve cover gaskets. The cruise control system was repaired as well. an actuator under the hood was replaced. Recently the shifter will intermittently not go into park so i've been setting the emergency brake; my mechanic told me the linkage needs adjusting or it may need a new bushing. The power windows all work well as do the wipers and horn. I bought the 450SL from the son of the original owner. Cosmetic: The Sl still wears her original paint and is presentable but unless you've just waxed it it looks dull. There are some small bubbles forming in the paint down at the rocker line but the floors. frame. trunk and body mounts are solid. The soft convertible top was replaced at some point but the plastic windows are beginning to get brittle and crack. The hard top bolts down firmly. the car is perfectly quiet inside on the highway with the windows up. The interior is the nicest part of the car. it looks brand new inside. I have receipts totaling over $2500 for the complete re-upholstery of every last item; German leather. carpet and padding. headliner. seats. door panels. handles. rear section. dash and the console. It was done by a shop that specializes in European cars. specifically Mercedes. Porsche and Jaguar. I've got the "Bundt" style wheels on the car again as seen in the pic with the hardtop on. those are the wheels the car originally came with. The Pirelli tires have good tread but are beginning to show some age. The chrome bumpers and brightwork are in great shape. no dents. scratches. pitting or fading. they shine brilliantly. When you look at. get into and drive this car it's clear that's she's always been treated with love and has spent her life as a "Garage Queen". She's roadworthy. all directional/brake/turn signal/headlights work. nbsp;even the intermittent wipers and cruise control. The engine always starts easily. even after sitting for a month or two and is perfectly quiet. Cruises nicely on the highway. holds the road perfectly. 4. 5 liter V8 moves this European sportscar easily up the highway with LOTS of power. The car tracks straight as an arrow and brakes evenly. idles perfectly and the suspension is luxurious. She is almost spotless underneath; floors and trunk completely solid. body never patched. As you can see in the pix I've also got a silver 1980 450SL; I'm not sure I want to sell it but I am open to offers. as finances force me to part with my toys. The silver one is in mechanically similar condition to the gold one; it recently got an entirely new front end. shocks and tires all around. The paint is nicer on the silver 450SL. it has a nice deep shine with a small area of clearcoat beginning to peel on the hood. Both cars have nice modern cd/mp3/Ipod stereos. The silver 450SL is a rare model; it's the 2+2 edition with a back seat and seat belts. I've put my 3 year old back there with his car seat buckled in (he LOVES convertibles!). I'd be more likely to part with the silver one if someone made an offer for both; but as I mentioned I am open to reasonable offers. Both of these cars have always been dependable and garaged. they're both a pleasure to drive. No leaks from either car. the garage floor is always dry when I take them out. Overall. they drive like European classic luxury sport tourers should. I reserve the right to end the auction early as the 450SL is for sale locally and I'm open to reasonable buy it now offers as well. I can assist with shipping in the USA or internationally if necessary. cost of shipping to paid by buyer. I can recommend a door to door auto shipper I've used many times in the past; they're professional. reliable and have great rates. Any questions feel free to email or call 914-224-3230 |
