Description of 1972 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class SL

I have for sale a 1972 Mercedes Benz 350 sl Roadster Convertible . Car comes with Both Hard Top and Soft Top ( Soft top is in great condition). The car has the 4. 5l V8 and Auto Transmission console shifting. I originally Purchased this car to redo because I have always wanted a older first years 350 sl and the 72 didn't have all the extra emission stuff like the newer years had and 72 was first year that the 350 sl was released to the US. This car still has the original 350 SL badging on it. I waited a few years to purchase a 350 SL because I wanted a low mileage one so when this car came along I had to get it. This car has 26. 73 original miles on it. I have searched the internet for 1972 350 sl's with that low of mileage and can not find one that low. I couldn't even find even a newer one with that low of mileage either. Their could be a few out there but I havn't found one yet. I see that the 350 sl price mostly depends on mileage the lower the miles the way more the price is. plus condition also. So if this car was restored to show car condition I think being that it has 26. 73 miles on it it could bring a very high price. I really wish I could keep it but unfortunately I have to sell it because of Illness in my family and I am going to need to sell most of my stuff to pay bills that are going to come up. So this is the only reason I am going to let it go. Now for the car . I purchased the car this fall off of a older gentleman that could no longer drive and the car sat in his pole barn last couple years. When the Gentleman did drive the car he only drove it in the summer to go to a few local car shows (why the low mileage and antique plate). Car was never driven in winter. According to him and his son the last time the car was driven was 3 years ago. His son said he started the car randomly to keep seals oiled etc last few years when he went to visit his dad. According to his son even when the car was new his dad would never drive the car unless was special occasion. When I purchased the car from the guy that owned it you could tell it was like him losing one of his kids but would rather see the car restored rather then sit in the pull barn and rust away so he ended up selling the car to me. About 8 years ago his son painted the car for his dad because the paint was fading (43 year old car). He did an ok job. Paint is still very shiny but not perfect. The paint job is showing little bubbles here and there. Some Paint cracking on drivers side right behind door on the rear fender. Car has those imperfections of a older restoration basically but the exterior body that you can see is mostly minute. The more bigger area is the floor boards are showing age . The rubber underneath looks mostly good that sits on the bottom but the floor panels will need to be replaced soon. Trunk floor looks mostly good underneath . Where the spare tire sits there is a drain hole . little surface rust there but no hole. on the left side up top inside the trunk there is rust there starting. I noticed that the Inner fenders in the front have a patch on them. So they may need to be replaced soon. rocker on 1 side is good . rocker on the other side has some rust here and there. not enough to put your finger through or nothing but it is there. The lenses have a crack or 2 in them . which some are good some need replaced. That is for exterior of car . The Interior is basically in great shape except few things. The dash pad has 2-3 cracks in it which is lame cause looks so nice otherwise and the passenger seat has 2 spots where they were fixed because of small rip or something. 1 is size of nickel other is dime. It looks good but can tell it was fixed. fixed really good though. Also the drivers arm rest on door is missing. Other then that like I said the Interior looks brand new minus those couple things which matches the mileage Imo. I would definitely give the interior a 9/10. Exhaust looks newer. As for engine : Starts right up. runs and drives. sounds good. Still could probably use a tuneup because it has been sitting a few years . but like I said I charged the battery and first turn of the key it fires right up. under the hood looks clean and so does engine etc. Please remember though it has sat for awhile so could need plugs or valve covers etc this is not a new by any means but it is a mercedes v8 that has 26. 73 miles on it should last quite a long time if someone maintains it like the owner did. Brakes work and so far from what I see everything on the car works. Tires seemed to be in good condition . Original Mercedes Rims. I took a bunch of pictures so you can see the whole car for yourself. I try to describe the car as best as I can but please look at pictures just in case also. If you have any questions feel free to message me or call me . my # is 906-236-9520 . Please remember that this car is a 1972 and needs work. Yes it runs and drives but it still needs to be restored. If you want to drive it as a daily driver way it is I guess you could but a 350sl with 26. 673 miles on it should be restored and be brought to car shows. Not everyday a 1972 Mercedes 350sl comes along with 26. 73 miles. Well hate to see the car go but I have too. Thank You for looking at my auction and Happy Bidding !!!All Glass is good No Cracks and in Mint Shape. The back rear quarter behind tire in picture the few black spots was dirt. I wiped that after I took picture of course lol. I also did not wash this car because in order to do so I would have to bring it to a car wash and I am not bringing the car on our roads in winter. They use a lot of salt around this time so car is dusty and could use a wash. Also sorry about the glare from the lights. I noticed there is a lot of pictures with glare on them. The car is very shiny so nothing I could do. I took a bunch of pictures but managed to forget to take under the hood pictures of the engine (don't know how I forgot but I did) So by Tomorrow (Thursday) around 4-6pm ish est time I will be adding more pics of under the hood. I am sorry don't know how I forgot . just a lot on my mind. MORE PICTURES IF YOU SCROLL DOWNJust want to ad that I will deliver the car if buyer needs it delivered within 400 miles for price of gas and trailer rental and a few $ to deliver it. I will help with any shipper and help buyer load it also etc. If you would like me to deliver it just call me or message me and we will figure out the price. On Feb-26-15 at 16:15:25 PST. seller added the following information:Here are the pictures under the hood and engine below. I had a question if the car has Air Conditioning and yes it does but the belt for it is off. The black stuff under the hood is that material they use to cover under the hood and spots of it are still on it. It is not rust. If you have any questions or would like any more pictures message me or call me and I will put them on for you. Thank You. On Feb-28-15 at 19:06:38 PST. seller added the following information:Just want to ad that I had a good amount of questions on if the Odometer worked. Yes the Odometer works ! If it didn't I definitely would not advertise the car as 26. 73 miles. Just to make sure again since the question I put the car on the hoist and gently let her idle and put into gear and let it drive and the odometer did work and so did the trip meter and then put my foot on brake and put back into park. (Did it right). This is a true 26. 73 mile car. If not I would of never bought it. Like I said I searched a few years to find a car with this low of mileage being that when 100% restored I would have one of the nicest low mileage 350 sl's out there for 72 year. I also had 2 questions on the wipers. Yes they work. I went to my shop today where the car is stored and noticed the nut that holds the passenger wiper down was loose. (not stripped out) so I aligned it where it is supposed to go and tightened the nut and they work flawless now. So yes the wipers work. I also forgot to ad that when I purchased the car there was 2 shocks brand new in the boxes sitting in trunk and they are included also. Well just wanted to ad those few things. Good Luck on the Bidding and whoever gets the car you are going to love it and you are getting one great car. I am going to miss it. Thank You.
