Description of 1980 Mercedes-Benz G-Class 280ge |
For sale is my 1985 280ge with approximately 19,200 miles on the car. I bought the car two and a half years ago and have since made many improvements to it. This is a rare car that I no longer have the time to enjoy. It isn't one of the ex-military G wagons but an original 280ge that with some TLC can be a real gem. The "Bad" The car has rust spots (especially where is common for these cars) as pictured (by the windsheild, gas tank, rocker panels) and is missing some body trim, but the frame, body and car are in overall good condition. Could benefit from body work and a respray but my focus has been mechanical. I have a original rocker and rear panels. The engine runs fine, but recently has been losing power after about 30 minutes of driving- my mechanic suspects that it is an ignition issue. The car, drives, stops and the Auto Transmission shifts just fine. Shifts into 4 wheel just fine. The car passed inspection and I have put about 1,000 around town miles on it. The "Good" Since purchasing the car, I have had the following work completed: 1. Fuel Tank Cleaned 2. Fuel Lines,Fuel filter and fuel pump. 3. Fuel Distributor, some injectors and warm -up regulator cleaned or replaced (Bosch K-Jet System) 4. Plugs, wires, distributor etc and regular tune up. 5. Battery replaced, alternator and belt replaced (the belt could use tightening) 6. Exhaust Manifold, manifold gasket, EGR valve, and 02 sensor done. 7. Spring Perch in the rear replaced 8. Wiper Motor Rebuilt (needs to be reinstalled) 9. Brake calipers rebuilt, brake lines replaced, brake pads and rotors redone. 10. Grounds to headlights, fuses and other interior lighting sorted. Horn, signals etc all sorted. 11. Original radio still works. 12. Heat blows hot air, has the optional AC. 13. Has an aftermarket Flowmaster exhause system that gives it an aggressive sound. And much more. The interior is in great shape and is virtually a time capsule. The original plaid Recaro seats are in excellent shape! Has the rare and matching third row jump seats. I have original factory replacement body and rocker panels we can discuss. Car is a treat to drive, very capable and increasing in collectibility. That said, it is a project that I don't have the time for anymore and is accordingly being sold "as is" Car has a 6 cylinder om110 engine. Please no Brokers, Marketers or tall tales.
