Description of 1962 Mercedes-Benz 200-Series Coupe |
1962 Mercedes-Benz 220 SE Coupe (Survivor Class) 108,334 confirmed miles Clear Title Vin: 1110211000734 Fantastically maintained and preserved 2-owner survivor car in overall very original condition, never taken apart or subject to a restoration. Purchased from a local Portland dealer after the original owner from California traded it in on a newer model Mercedes-Benz. Exterior color is #050 "White" over #214 "Rust" red leather interior, which is an elegant terra cotta hue compared to the much more common red or maroon. Colors reflect delivery specification. Original leather covers the seats that are worn with back sheep skins on top, dash, door cards, glove box, rear side panels. Seat surfaces require replacement or leave as-is for "derelict cool" vibe that's popular presently at shows and meets. Registered perpetually, this car has never sat unused, and shows 108,000+ confirmed miles. Excellent oil pressure. Stack of 25 receiptsshows nearly $20,000 spent over the last 6-years for parts and service from the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center and local independent Mercedes shops. The head was rebuilt at 100,949 miles using a unit from Metric Motors along with other work totaling $9,615 for that service alone. Original Becker Europaradio still works. Lots of mechanical work has been completed on this car to bring it to a state where it is very reliable and drivable, yet the cosmetics were left untouched to keep this largely original car honest and authentic. In any gathering or show it is always a center of attention owing to it's "derelict" cool factor in this age of prizing originality and patina. It's the perfect car for daily driving, timed rally use, or touring where you don't want to worry about adding a paint chip but where reliability remains paramount. Excellent base for rally-type vehicle such as Peking to Paris. There are areas that exhibit the car's age such as a rock chip in the far passenger side of windshield, small dents and dings throughout the body and bumpers, the clock ceased to function last summer, some gaskets are dry, the fuel gauge flops around below about 1/2 tank, and the paint has been touched up in various sections over the years. There is one small area of bubbling in the paint just ahead of the driver's rear wheel but it is not through the body and has been treated with inhibitor, primer and paint. There are no patch panels. Additional original paint/coatings are present under the hood, in the trunk (black), door and fender edges, and on the underbody and chassis. All chassis, body, engine, and frame numbers and tags are present. The chrome is in exceptional condition bumpers have a few dings in them. The car is rust free. All original items included along with some spares and extras including some maintenance materials from the original owner, the tool roll is present and stocked, the jack and full-size spare tire are present, owner's manual, transmission manual, dealer photo brochure, copy of the data card, the Classic Center W111 repair CD, new uninstalled cowl seal, spare sealed beam units, part take-offs that were requested after shop repairs, and lots more.
