Description of 1987 Mercedes-Benz 500-Series

1987 Mercedes-Benz 560SEL

This is a car to be seen and driven to believe its performance and quality of ride. I have been proud to own this car for the last 14 years and I feel like a diplomate each time I drive it. The mileage on the car is 138,730.

This beautiful black and maroon/burgundy Mercedes is the extended version of the 560SE model (Gas) for 1987. The extra length expands the cabinet space for the passengers sitting in the rear seats. There is a little-known fact about the 560SEL.The extended wheelbase of this model did not fit on the Mercedes production line, so much of this car was hand assembled. The1987 Car and Driver featured a Rolls Royce, Bentley and Mercedes-Benz 560SEL in a comparison and the Mercedes build quality ranked high in this league of bespoke cars.

I bought this car in 2005 and commissioned Hatch and Sons of Sudbury (Now in Hudson, MA) to fully restore it back to its original glory. I was the second owner. After an extensive stay at this vintage Mercedes specialty facility, I look delivery of a gorgeous “like new” Mercedes and have enjoyed it ever since.

For the years following, this car was dealership maintained at Mercedes-Benz of Shrewsbury, MA. The car was driven modestly for the 14 years I have owned it and close attention was given to its care and maintenance. There are maintenance records to support much of the work performed.

This Mercedes is in exceptional condition. The few minor cosmetic issues are an easy fix and the mechanical aspects of the car run to factory specs. The three issues that need to be addressed are: (1.) Sunroof alignment, (2.) Cruise control vacuum leak and (3.) Front passenger seat needs a new controller.

This magnificent car has just been professionally detailed and the oil/filter has been changed. The car recently past the 2020 auto inspection with inspection sticker.

If you are seriously looking for a vintage flagship luxury car, this Mercedes desires your close attention.
