Description of 1992 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

For your consideration is a 1992 Mercedes W124 400E. This is a well-taken-care-of example of an uncommon Mercedes that has always been kept in Oregon or California. This Mercedes drives as the factory intended without any unexpected noises, vibrations, or hesitation from any system. Steering is direct, tight, and comfortable. Throttle response is smooth and without drivetrain movement or complaint. The transmission shifts in a timely and smooth manner in both city commute and spirited country environments. This is a great example of a stock driver V8 W124. The only deviation from stock was the installation of 16x7j Mercedes "Merak" wheels wrapped in newer Bridgestone Potenzas.
The body of this 400E is presentable without any evidence of paint work. The black paint has a deep shine to it all over but could benefit from swirl correction. Notable blemishes include a healthy dose of stone chips on the hood, two unidentified 1.5" blemished lines on the passenger fender, a .75" corner ding just below the passenger taillight, and 2-3 touch up spots. The seals are all in good condition and do not leak any water in. It appears as if the undercarriage has never seen road salt as factory paint and undercoating are very intact underneath. The unibody and hardware are very clean underneath. The door jambs are all extremely clean and factory looking. The roof and its bronze trim are in excellent shape. The plastic body cladding shows its original charcoal color well with no notable issues. The front spoiler under the bumper is scuffed and cracked on the driver's side. The grille is dinged in 2-3 places. All glass is good and free of scratches. The factory windshield has two stone chips on the far passenger's side. The trunk seal must have failed at some point because there is minor rust bubbling at the trunk floor under the spare tire. Battery area has surface rust but is solid. Has DEPO glass Euro headlights but retains US underlight filler panels.
The interior is original and presents well. All four power windows go up and down quickly and quitely. Sunroof goes up and back as it should. No switchgear is damaged: seat controls, etc. all work as intended. Does not appear to have ever been smoked in. The seats have cracks in the leather, the worst on the driver's cushion where it has actually cracked. Door cards are almost perfect but have minor delamination at the top edge of the map pockets. Elsewhere the leather has sun/age wear but no cracks. All comfort features work, including nice cold Air Conditioning. Center stack vents do not blow. Veneer is in good condition on the dash but has cracking down in the console near the window controls as well as on the center console compartment sliding cover. Instrument cluster is is in great condition. The headliner is in good condition with some evidence of wear around the sunroof, however it is obvious that it has never had moisture introduced to it or anywhere in the interior. Factory cassette deck sounds good, speakers are also factory. Power antenna works.
Mechanically this car is a solid everyday driver. There is a minor engine oil leak (visable on driveway) but nothing that has required top-offs in recent 1000 mile trips. Starts good in any weather and sounds amazing. There is cracking in the front strut tower mount bushing rubber, but even over rougher roads the suspension does not make any noise. Air conditioning blows super cold and car remains at operating temperature even on hot days. SRS airbag light is on.
