Description of 1991 Mercedes-Benz 300-Series 300CE

Extremely rare 1991 Mercedes Mosselman 300CR Silver Arrow - VIN WDB1240511B665665.

This is one of 5 ever produced by Mosselman. We imported this car from Japan in March 2020. Clean title and registered in WA. The car started as a Euro 300CE-24V coupe and later modified by Mosselman Turbo Systems. Mosselman’s inspiration for the 300CR came from the Group C prototype Mercedes-Benz race cars introduced in the late 80’s and used to compete in multiple championships including the 24 Hours of Le Mans and took first place both in 1988 and 1989 at the World Endurance Manufacturer’s Championship.

It started with the paint work, using the traditional color of the Mercedes “Silber Pfiel”, or Silver Arrow (Mercedes brilliant silver 744). The silver paint work extends to the front bumper spoiler, lower sills and rear bumper. In line with this theme, Mosselman named the car 300CR. The wheels are six spoke alloys, made in Germany and built specifically for the Silver Arrows, then painted metallic grey to match the wheels on the Group C cars. They are 8.5x18in fitted with Kuhmo Ecsta LE Sport in 235/40R18 all around. To fit the larger tires, Mosselman grafted the flared front wings and bumper/spoiler of the 500E on to the car and reworked the body around the rear arches to match. The wider stance gives the car a subtle yet aggressive look, further enhanced by the lowered and upgraded suspension, Bilstein dampers and unique Mosselman springs. Front and rear sway bars were uprated. On the trunk lid, a Mosselman branded carbon fiber spoiler was added, along with a carbon fiber front lip. NACA style air inlets were added to the rear arches. Lockable race-car fuel filler cap and quick fill fuel neck was added. In the cabin, the front seats in the 300CR are replaced with a pair of composite-backed Recaro A8 racing seats, painted silver and trimmed in buffalo leather. Racing harness points were added to the car and the 300CR comes with its original Sabelt four-point racing harness. Buffalo leather is also used for trimming the rest of the interior, including rear seats, front door inserts and rear seat side panels. The headliner is finished in red-stitched suede. The original wood trim throughout the cabin was replaced with carbon fiber pieces. The machined aluminum gear knob and leather boot are a unique feature to Mosselman. The manual gearbox is a five-speed dogleg. Aluminum footrest plate was added adjacent to the clutch pedal. The instrument cluster was recalibrated and the facia was replaced with a speedometer reading out to 320km/h. An electronic Mosselman branded instrument panel was part of the package and displays instant turbo boost pressure and exhaust temperature. The panel is mounted on a flexible mount making it adjustable. The leather wrapped Momo steering wheel was added to the package. The A/C was retained and is functioning. An antenna was added to the roof. Although the radio is inexistent, the factory wiring harnesses and speakers appear to still be in place. The car comes with a Japanese GPS screen hardwired and connected to the speaker systems. In the trunk, a spare wheel, factory jack, and original Mercedes-Benz tool pouch are stored.

The engine was modified to incorporate a twin-turbo installation, carrying full German TUV approval. The system uses the factory cats but is fitted with a sport exhaust along with custom exhaust manifold, cast with the lettering “Mosselman Turbo”. Mosselman build the turbo conversions to US CA emissions standards. The turbo installation uses two Garrett T25 turbochargers with water cooled bearing housings and integral wastegates. The intercooler is mounted on the driver’s side of the engine bay in the horizontal plane. Mosselman used 0.5 (7psi) bar of boost, reducing strain on the engine. This conversion is good for 320hp at 5,700rpm and 300lb ft of torque at 4,000rpm.

The 300CR is not fitted with traction control making it a wild animal on the road. The original Silver Arrow sales brochure and modifications price sheet reflect a premium of 158,000DM top of the new car purchase price.

The rear passenger side window is inoperative. The headlights were upgraded to HID units. Recent engine service includes a full engine service and oil change. The car comes with extensive service records dating from 2007.
