VINWDBBA48D3HA055812 ODOMETER78,400 ENGINE5,547cc SOHC V-8 TRANSMISSIONAutomatic EXTERIOR COLORAnthracite Grey Metallic INTERIORRed leather SELLERPrivate AUCTION TYPEReserve Overview Mercedes-Benz sold just under 90,000 cars in the United States during 1987, including this 560SL roadster, which represented that year’s entry among the R107-platform sports cars. This 1987 Mercedes-Benz 560SL is described as a two-owner, unrestored car in good operating order, with its original engine and desirably, both the soft and hard roofs, along with a factory rolling stand for supporting the hardtop when not in use. This example is in good overall condition and shows just 78,400 miles on odometer, a figure corroborated by the attached Carfax vehicle history report. Powertrain The 560SL was powered by Mercedes-Benz’s M117 SOHC 5,547-cc V-8. With a compression ratio of 9.0:1, the engine received its fuel mixture via Bosch KE-Jetronic fuel injection and was rated by the manufacturer at 238 horsepower. It starts immediately and runs well without smoke. The four-speed automatic transmission shifts properly. Minor weeps are noted around some powertrain seals. Exterior The 560SL’s paint is in “good” overall condition, with some light scratching. Some unevenness to the aluminum hood resulting from hail damage is reported. The convertible top is in good condition, and a storage rack for the hardtop will be included. Low if any rust on the car with no water leaks have been detected. The bumpers and bodyside cladding are clean and free of scuffs. The glass is in good condition. All the exterior lighting is functional. The underside shows normal road grime and minor surface corrosion. Interior The red leather seating materials in this 560SL appear to be original and exhibit minor wear, with light creasing and possible light discoloration of the bottom seat cushions. No evidence of rips or tears is visible. The carpeting is said to be in good condition. The padded dashboard looks to be in good unrestored condition, with minor cracks, and with wood inlays that appear to be in good condition. The instrumentation is in proper working order. An Alpine CD audio system has been installed in the dash. The heater, air conditioning, power window lifts and central locking are all described as functional. The carpeted trunk presents cleanly. Chassis The date of the 560SL’s most recent chassis service is uncertain. The components show normal wear, with minor weeps from connecting points in the power steering lines. No problems are reported with the four-wheel-disc braking system. The factory alloy wheels to show normal wear and mount BFGoodrich Touring T/A tires, sized 205/65R15, with about half their tread remaining. |
