Description of 1987 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class SL |
A classic, ready for your next summer cruise or road trip. A head-turner (particularly when you see how it looks in person). Owned and operated by one family since purchased brand new in Lakeview, NY in January of 1987 (AutoCheck shows 3 owners, due to title transfers within same family). Handled with extreme care for 30+ years. Runs perfect, everything works. Interior is in great condition. Original paint is like new - carefully detailed by hand for 30+ years. Newer Alpine stereo (with new Polk speakers) installed in recent years - allows for handsfree calling and bluetooth music streaming - handsfree calling even works on highway with top down (and you can hear the music, unlike the original stock speakers). Original Becker radio (uninstalled) also included, worked when removed a few decades ago. Original hard top with rolling cart, has spent very few years actually on the car since it doesn't go out to play in bad weather anyway. If in the NY area, come see in person and run your hands over the glass-smooth paint, pictures don't do this one justice. In recent years, new brakes, calipers, brake lines, radiator, shocks and muffler (all OEM parts - pricey!) installed. New battery just installed (November 2022), and the cumbersome job of replacing the steering coupler was also done in November 2022 - which has brought the steering seemingly back to near-factory quality (less play in steering wheel, which is pretty common on these R107’s). And, brand new Michelin M+S tires installed a few years and only a few hundred miles ago. I've probably spent $10-12k in typical maintenance for a vehicle of this nature (no major issues, just components requirement replacement due to age) over the past 5-10 years to keep everything in great working order, and as a result this vehicle is running great. Great acceleration and handling - turn the key and drive, that's it. No expensive work needed to keep it running, as far as I'm aware. A/C and heat work well (for a 30 year old vehicle). A modern trickle charger was also installed along with the new battery in November 2022, does a great job of keeping car properly charged and ready to go - plug into power outlet. Some of the wiring was replaced about 10-15 years ago, no warning lights or non-functioning items. Heat blows hot and A/C blows cold (out of all vents). Mileage total on this vehicle averages out to just over 1k per year - enough to have kept it running great and continuously on the road for 30+ years. As a result, engine runs really well and still has a lot of pop - particularly when you drop the gas pedal and want to play. In recent years, have still taken this on 1-2 hour summertime drives with no issues and smooth riding on the highway. Contact me with questions or to arrange a viewing. Serious buyers only please. No warranty. Sold as-is, where-is. |
