Description of 1968 Mercedes-Benz 230S 230S Fintail/Heckflosse

Classic 1968 Mercedes 230S - Partially Restored Project Car
1968 Mercedes 230S. This vehicle was acquired in project car condition and has undergone significant repairs to bring it back to life. While it still requires attention, major mechanical components have been restored, making it a great foundation for further customization and restoration.
**Engine:**The engine has been restored to functioning condition and is now in working order. The oil pump was replaced and is currently filled with high-performance racing oil. We check the oil level regularly and haven't had any oil leak issues since replacing the oil pump.
**Major Repairs:**The following essential components have been replaced:- Braking system: Including front pads and rotors with new brake fluid. The rear drums were serviced.- Suspension (excluding coils).- Tires were replaced in 2018 including the spare tire. Very few miles on them.- Battery: A new battery has been installed.- Distributor system was redone by a master mechanic. (Larson Auto Works in Houston)- Windshield wiper motor: Replaced with part from another Mercedes W111 model. Not new but working. Wiper arms were adjusted to lay flat appropriately.- Transmission: Professionally rebuilt.
See this link to invoices describing work that was done on the Mercedes when it was originally purchased by us https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/15_hxTUSUcobZPDe20VPRIMr-wzjPjc7G?usp=sharing
**Attention Required:**While many major repairs have been undertaken, please understand that this vehicle is still overall in project condition. Please note that the carburetor may require some attention. The carb has given us trouble in the past. We considered upgrading the carb to the performance Weber carb that was made for the W111 Mercedes models. You can find conversion kits on eBay for about $1,000 or less. As of right now the car turns but won't start due to an issue with the carb. We have not looked into the issue yet beyond that the carb needs repair to get the car running again. Additionally, the front driver wheel panel paint has suffered some damage, which will need refinishing. Significant cracking and chipping of paint. In general, the car will need an entirely fresh coat of paint.
**Cosmetic Work:**Both the exterior and interior of the vehicle require cosmetic attention. However, with some dedicated effort, you can transform this classic beauty into a showstopper. Including paint issues, and trim issues.
**Included Extras:**With this purchase, you will receive an air conditioner compressor, although the entire air conditioning system has been removed. The accompanying parts forthe system will be included. You will need to determine which parts are salvageable and which are not. The system was filled with R12 refrigerant. The engine struggled not to stall on idle with air con so the system was removed.
Moreover, the previous owner has left behind a comprehensive repair and tune-up guide, Chilton's Repair & Tune-Up Guide, along with notes documenting work done on the car. The value of the notes is pretty hit-and-miss in our experience. Ideally, you would not need them.
