Description of 1983 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class |
A Champagne Gold 380SL with Palomino interior. This is a very nice driver quality car. Originally sold new in Los Angeles to a music industry executive. The car has been well maintained. No rust anywhere. New soft top. Hard top included with the sale. Actual miles and everything works. A/C. P/S. P/B. P/W. even the clock keeps accurate time. Has an aftermarket Pioneer sound system with CD and potential for other options like amp. USB. etc. Tires are like new. Brakes are 75-80% pad thickness. This is a fun car to drive. This is a great car to drive. Engine is smooth. powerful. quiet and has the double row timing chain (the desirable one). It gets great gas mileage. A four speed overdrive automatic transmission that shifts like a Mercedes should. I am not aware of anything it needs. It drives and stops perfectly. Paint has a few chips but nothing that detracts from it's appearance. I would rate the paint as a solid 7 on a scale of 1 to 10. Please note. I am driving it during good weather so mileage will continue to increase. Please email me I will respond. Thanks for looking at my car. On Apr-05-15 at 10:39:48 PDT. seller added the following information:I will add more pictures. especially one with the hard top on the car. This car has a tune up (plugs. ignition module. cap rotor). new sub-frame mounts. new motor mounts. new top weatherstrip. new transmission. 90. 00 mile service when the water pump was replaced. new belts. hoses. New upper and lower control arm bushings; a lot of other rubber parts that typically dry rot over time. There is several thousand dollars worth of replacement parts and labor done to this car. that you will not need to do. as I was originally planning to do a full rotisserie restoration. The ATC works well. I added 1/2 pound of R-12 (yes. R-12. the good stuff) The A/C on Max will freeze you out of the car. The car has one repaint done about 5-6 years ago. A nice muli-stage lacquer paint in the original color. As stated earlier. it has a few stone chips and a few ( 2 to 3) paint chips. not dings. from daily type use. A very small ding (possible PDR repair) in the LF fender above the wheel well (you can see it in the first picture). The 1st and 2nd owner took very good care of this car; following MBZ maintenance requirements. These vintage SL's (R107) are very undervalued. They will shoot up in price soon just like the prior SL's (W113 and W112 BII) did. Collectors are realizing this is a very well built body. comfortably sized. a great road car. creature feature accessories. parts are readily available from MBZ and the aftermarket. The Germans refer to it as the Panzerwagon (The Tank) because of the well built body/unibody. You can enjoy driving this car. as is. for many years. Then restore it or sell it later for a profit. That was my plan. NO RUST cars are hard to find. Rust repair is ALWAYS temporary. Any cuts or welds start a new opportunity for rust. I don't care what the rust encapsulators say. rust NEVER sleeps. NOTHING EQUALS THE MBZ FACTORY ASSEMBLY AND SEALING PROCESS. Don't buy someone else's headache. I am an ASE Master Tech and ASE Master Body & Paint Tech. I inspect the vehicle I buy. thoroughly. If there is a body issue with the main assembly. I don't buy it. I bought this for my wife. I like the color combination; she doesn't. That is why I am selling it. I bought her a red car. That's what she wanted. RED. I have several other projects that take a front seat to this MBZ. So it must go. One project is an ISCA show car. Gotta get it done. I invite anyone to come inspect this car before bidding. Put it up on a hoist and shake it down. This is a VERY nice car. It rides. drives and handles like a new 380SL. |
